Thumbs up A Brave Soldier

I'm sure her fellow soldiers think a lot of her...http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080309/ap_on_re_as/afghan_silver_star;_ylt=An_RY4PinJexpxR74qpWcsOs0N UE

I do as well

There should be no detractors for these people (medics) and only praise for their extraordinary behavior and character. They put their lives on the line and in most cases take greater unprotected risk than the soldiers in the field. Having spent time in the military in the 60's and 70's and EMS in most recent years, I would say she may very well have deserved even higher honor than the Silver Star. It's difficult enough to treat someone under normal conditions but on the battlefield the ability to concentrate on caring for someone else while having complete disregard for one's self is very challenging. Too bad the press doesn't give her more coverage.

There are many young people today w/ strong unwavering character, unfortunately, the press only covers the Britney's and Lindsay's of this world. I have had the good fortune to meet and visit with some of these young folks and they are truly extraordinary.

Texas girl, why am I not surprised...

I have flown medivac for years but what these medics do "in harms way" is a long way from what I could every put up with. Most of the people shooting out there use the Red Cross on their helmets for aiming practice, so they are a target from the get go.

She sure deserves it, and many more.

From the picture caption it looks like she is still serving over there.

I've never heard of a detractor for this sort of thing.

That is the sort of person I'd like my kids to meet, just so they (& I) could shake her hand.
She started running toward the burning vehicle as insurgents opened fire.

Says it all really.

Kind of makes comments from another thread (" Soliders are recruited and trained based on their ability to be turned into killers who can follow orders.") stick in your throat doesn't it?

Congratulations and being recognized and being awarded the Silver Star.

Serving with these young men and women is humbling. They do not have years (decades?) of training and experience. To watch them go from playing grab ass to serious professionals in seconds is inspiring.

Too those who think the younger generation cannot perform and have no discipline this young soldier is just one example of the hundreds of thousands who are serving.

I hope this does not become another Jessica Lynch or Pat Tillman, we all need something untarnished once in a while.

Or just once.

Kach,

Please don’t denigrate either one. Both served honorably, neither shirked their duty nor attempted to call attention to themselves. That PR types misrepresented things should in no way be allowed to tarnish their service.

I was hoping no one would take that the wrong way. The higher ups tarnished their names, their deeds and service did not.

A good read

Several years ago,James Bradley wrote "Flags of Our Fathers". His father was a Navy Corpsman on Iwo Jima. It`s one of the best I have read on sheer bravery in action.Yes they are still out there. She is one of them.

Is that the movie where one of the guys who helped raise the flag the second time claimed it was another guy (in the famous photo) who died in action the next day?

Deep movie, with a message of humility.

I highly recommend the book...it traces the arc of all the flag raisers, including Ira Hays in a very human manner.

It is not pro or anti war, the book is simply gripping.

I can't say enough about the great kids we have serving "out there"... they are really America's best!!!
