Talk to Me About the Porsche Parade
The PCA Porsche Parade is being held this year in Charlotte, NC, just a couple hours from my cousin's place in Apex (actually, I just got back YESTERDAY from visiting him and taking a weekend trip - with a group of college-aged co-eds
![]() I will be attending a full-time teaching certification program starting in June or early July; I am not sure if the dates will conflict with the Parade. If they do, I would be able to drive down for, at best, a long weekend. Also, I don't know any other PCA members down there. Or up here, really... I've been a member for a number of years, but have only really attended the car shows. I've been friendly with the members at these meetings, but I haven't made friends in the same way that I've made friends through Pelican. Considering these factors, should I send in the registration form? If you DON'T register, you can still do things like attend the concours events, car shows, etc., right? In other words, I will be able to get into the Parade (but not take part in banquets and rallies) even if I don't register, right? I'm eager to hear your opinions and experiences.

CJ,
The Concours/Paddock is being held on the streets of Charlotte so that peole will be able to see the cars. However, participation is limited to registered cars. Since you enjoy car shows, this is one you should not miss.

I figure a parade is something a P-car guy should experience at least once...

Having attended a few Parades, its an experience I can highly recommend. You will meet a lot of nice Porsche owners at the event.

We are working hard to make this the best Parade yet. Lots of interest this year since it is the Porsche's 60th birthday, first time back on east coast in 3 years and Charlotte is centrally located. Normally, the PCA website takes a couple of hundred hits for registration when it opens. Yesterday it was close to 1,000 and overloaded the server!
Check this out: http://www.paradecharlotte.org/ PM me with any questions.

I signed up. I figure this may be a "once in a lifetime" chance to attend on so close to home.

Do you recommend registering? Would I miss out on any must-do events if I just go down there without registering?

Well...errr...um. Like I said...everybody should go at least once. Then they could make up their own mind.

Just to offer up the other side of this. I attended with several local PCA members when it was in Tampa about 5 years ago. We went up for the day to see the concourse and were not truely registered for the event but we were card caring PCA members. We were able to walk around but were not allowed in to any of the other areas: vendor displays, art work room, etc. We were stopped at the door. We found the whole thing a bit overrated.
