Tough guys (pretty much pre-baby boomers) get through almost anything.
He just needs to be careful to take enough pain meds so that he takes good deep coughs afterward. Otherwise, pneumonia and another 7 days in the hospital. (ie don't be too tough and try and "ride it out")

Sorry for taking so long with an update - it has been a crazy 24 hours.
The recovery process has begun.. The doctors and nurses had been amazed by my dad's recovery. The three main complications have not manifested themselves at all. As his recovery continues, the risk gets lower and lower. We saw him last night post-op, but while he was 'awake,' he really wasn't very coherent, due to the pain killers. He had a breathing tube and lung machine breathing for him plus hundreds of tubes, monitors, IV's. We visited Apu again today, and he was sitting up, and very coherent - they removed his breathing tube, and he can breathe on his own. He spoke with us for quite a while. He is relatively comfortable, all things considered. There are some blood draining tubes that go into his body by his abdomen - that is giving him considerable pain, . His vital signs are steady, bp is good, hemogoblin levels are excellent. Everything is very positive. Now we just wait as the healing process continues. Before the operation, Apu said that he knows where he is going, should the Lord call him home. Yet he also felt that if the doctors could fix him up, then maybe he still has some time on this earth. His resolve was this: it is in the Lord's hands, either way. While I am sure that the Easter celebrations in Heaven are out of this world, for now, Apu will be celebrating wirh us on Earth. I am so thankful for the support you all have been to me and my family. I told Apu about PPOT, and what support you have given me. When he gets better, I plan on showing him this thread, and I will ask him to post up a reply here... Soon, I hope! Going to sleep now - if I can - been very difficult to rest. Maybe next week, iI'll get some rest.... Goodnight, -Z-man

I know it is hard to see your dad in that condition. I went thru the same thing when my dad had triple bypass when I was 18 and he was only 49. Sounds like your dad is a strong guy and can handle it just fine. Our prayers continue for Apu's recovery.

I wish your dad a speedy recovery. Hungarians are a tough breed. My (Hungarian) mom had a quintuple bypass at age 87 (argued with the doctors that she had indigestion, NOT a heart attack!
