Re-ordering Bank Checks- BofA expensive

I need to re-oder checks as my SO uses them all the time. I was about to re-order some until I noticed that BofA charges $32 for 300 checks . I realize that there are some security benefits in using my own bank, but what secure alternative vendors do you guys use?

It seems a little pricey, but I am notoriously cheap about things that don't see a need for. It's credit cards or online banking for me.

Thanks!

I may write 5 checks per year these days. I used to work for both Wachovia and BoA many years ago, and both used Harland...check their web site and maybe they have better rates. Did I mention that large banks suck ...

I pay $10 for 500 checks at my CU.

Unless you have custom checks, they are marking them up by 320%.

What are checks and why would a person need them?

BofA will write the check out for you, put it in an envelope, stamp it and mail it for free - what a great service. All from the comfort of your local computer.

In the past I have went out drinking with the boys, ran short of cash and borrowed a twenty from a buddy. The next morning I log on to my BofA account, type in his address and he receives a check in the mail later that week. All for free - what a country!!

Back on subject - I have used the check printing services and they are just fine. Of course this was before the internet so its been a while.

My CU does that as well - also for free. I have almost all of my bill payment automated now - I could drop off the face of the earth, but my bills would get paid until the account ran dry.

You have to wonder how long until they start charging...

Order from Costco online. $10 for 300.

I have all of my regular bills drafted, and had been doing that for many years before most of the banks started offering their "online bill paying services". Once they start charging for this service (and of course they will), I'd drop it in a heartbeat as you can do it all (on your own) for free.

Seriously. I use very few checks now. Online pay is the way to go, and this is coming from an anti-technologist.

Unfortunately, my CU charges $7 of online bill-pay, which is more than the cost of the checks and stamps...

Thanks Lee for the Costco link. I saved $20 over BofA.

I agree about never writing checks. However the SO writes then and for $12, I will let her do what she wants. Online bill pay with BofA is pretty damn good.

Even if online bill pay cost money I would still do it because it is so easy
