That BMW 1-series seems like a fun little car.

A coupe. You most likely pronounce it like an American, with one syllable.

coupé...The accent requires you to pronounce the last syllable.

Anyways, anyone else think that the 5th Gear guys are not nearly as entertaining as Top Gear?

What separates TOP GEAR and 5TH GEAR is the chemistry between the shows' respective hosts. 5TH GEAR's hosts are likable and engaging, but TOP GEAR's hosts compliment each others' personalities perfectly. Clarkson is subjectivist, loudmouthed, opinionated, and condescending; Hammond is logical, fun-loving, and often acts as the foil to Clarkson's antics; May is responsible, the voice of reason, and the settler of disputes. Clarkson likes Ferraris, Hammond likes Porsches, May likes Rolls Royces and old, slow cars, and they all like Astons. The dynamic is PERFECT.

5th Gear = informative
Top Gear = entertaining

Both are very well produced, 1000x better than anything we have here in the USA.

Funny, I kind of like the damn thing. I give them credit for being original, and not coming out with a retro 2002.

In terms of performance, if they would've used the Cayman S, rather than the base Cayman, the outcome would have been a bit different, at least on the track, where the extra 50 horsepower would've matched the BMW's. Base Cayman - 245 HP, Cayman S - 295 HP.

However, the BMW is a great car and is significantly less expensive than the Cayman S, for sure.

Base Caymen - $50,000
Caymen S - $59,000
BMW 135i - $35,000

that is a big difference.

+1

Top Gear, while great, is more about entertainment than education.

They also only did one lap and were showboating... By lap 2 the Bimmer's brake might have been on fire. By lap 3 the water pump would have to be replaced. And it still looks like a pregnant cat dragging its belly on the ground!

I want to like that 1 Series but it's seriously heavy and not very good looking ! I own a 1973 2002 and I reject the link to my car ;-) Now if they were to do a less porky Tii version with a light turbo 4 or something ????

That said, same goes to the Cayman. It's too expensive and needs more power, and an RS version !
