Suggested brake pads for a Volvo S60?

I realize it's not a Porsche (although I do have a '78 SC) but I don't know who else to ask (Volvo forum is pretty quiet).

My wife's 2002 Volvo S60 (AWD) is ready for new pads (and maybe rotors ? - I haven't checked them yet). Are there any opinions on brand of brake pads for this car? OEM Volvo, Pagid, Mintex ? Looking for minimum dust and sqeal (as well as adequate performance).

And, yes, I will be ordering from Pelican.

Thanks,

Jerry M

For normal road use, I like PBR DELUX pads (formally Axis, formally Repco). I have them on both my Audi and BMW. Stopping power and pedal feel are about the same as stock but with no squeal and very little dust. They're easy on your rotors, too. Have the rotors turned, bed in the pads properly and you should be good to go.

I would recc OE pads and rotors then install yourself..................any other option would be asking for noise issues.

This is a constant source of customer complaints for us when non-OE stuff is used. This is how the typical story goes. Customer comes to us and they need brakes. We only use OE or OE suppliers psrts. Then they go to shop "A" or "B" and get the job for less than our shop quoted......they use non -OE stuff.

THEN they come back to us to find out why their brakes are making noise. UGH !!!!

That isn't always the case. Before I was DIYer I used to take my car to an independant shop or the dealer (I was young). "These are your brakes we're talking about" they'd say. Okay, fine. Most of the time - not all - my brakes would come back squeaky or develop squeals not long after. "They all do that" they would say. Ever since I started doing my own brakes I have never once had squeaks or squeals. I often use a high-quality aftermarket pad.

I've had nothing but good luck w/ Mintex in the normal street compound. Had them in my SC, my 996, and a BMW or two. No noise or excessive dust issues, they don't eat rotors and stopping performance is at least equal to OEM pads, if not better.

My SC w/ street Mintex, slotted ATE front rotors, stainless steel lines and ATE Super Blue fluid got nothing but compliments from instructors who were serious racers when they drove it at DE events.

The Bilstein sport shocks and corner balance + 7/8s helped as well, but I got some real raised eyebrows when they hit the brakes. I'm a huge Mintex fan for street cars. BTW, you don't want pads that make no dust at all. They have to sacrifice themselves in the course of their duty to stop the car.

Just replaced all pads and rotors on my 850 turbo. Used OEM and they work well. If I were using the car for anything but normal driving I would upgrade or aftermarket.
