i'm 2/3 german in the driveway now....

michelle and i wanted to replace her cr-v as the miles were getting up there, we were also dealing with a screwy interest rate problem with honda of america too.....after getting absolutely nowhere with them over repeated phone calls and a visit to the dealer we said screw honda.....and bought a 2006 vw jetta w/25k on it, we got a good enough deal where we didn't lose much at all with the negative we had in the cr-v.

the tranny shifts weird in the lower gears, it's electronic shift but sometimes seems like it's searching for which gear to be in under low load situations, anything above 20mph and it's perfect.....no big deal as we have the remainder of the vw warranty, i will have it checked out anyway.

car is perfect with the exception of a few tiny stone chips, and with the non-turbo 5 cyl it has plenty of torque and should get at least 30mpg on the highway which is good

a pic.....

yes the dealer logos are coming off

Cool, I guess we are 2/3 German as well with our recent BMW purchase.

Congrats.

3/3 here. And I have the bills to prove it. Congrats on your VW.

6/8..... Bell, I have an Audi which I bought right, but you may want to do some research if you have not already, as Audis and VW's are not the best cars in recent years to own once the warranty expires. IOW, you may be in for headaches if you keep it past it's warranty. It is a nice looking car though...congrats

i owned a honda (wish i still did) and know several folks who own/owned late model vw's. based on this small sampling i'd say 'you'll see' soon enough.

I've read similar things on this forum more than once. My 1986 Diesel Golf was less than perfect, but that was a long time ago.

Tim is back?

the car has the inline 5 not the turbo 4 or vr6, i've had friends with the 5 and have had nothing but good things to say about the engines, the 6spd auto tranny is my only real concern, we would've gotten a manual but michelle can't drive stick, nor does she want to learn.....which is fine cause my 911 is a stick

i've already googled a ton of stuff, searched the vw forums and saw there are some problems with the older autos with the turbo/vr6 auto trannys, but couldn't find anything on the lower hp 5cyl.

With the previous cars, it's more little stuff that costs a lot of money. Electronic gizmos and modules, suspension bushings that wear out very early, stuff like that. But, a broken car is a broken car. Hopefully they've improved with this most recent generation.
