I have the uber-box set (5 discs!), and it includes the pre-cut version, "workprint". I have not yet watched it, but it's what was shown to select audiences long before release, and apparently is a VERY disturbing version of the story...potentially what Ridley Scott *really* wanted. No Vangelis, long before he was brought in to do the music. Final Cut was an excellent version, and the first time I watched the movie upconverted...WOW!

Those of you that like the voiceover and happy ending...do you want all of your movies to hold your hand softly and tell you what is happening in every scene, and why it matters?

On a related note I remember seeing Brazil on tv and they cut the ending to make it "happy." Huge travesty...

Must have cut about 90 minutes off the "end"...I don't know how else you could make that one "happy"

When the girl breaks him out of the dentist's chair and they get in the truck and drive through the valley they started rolling the credits. They never flashed back to him in the chair. Viola - happy ending.

Looks like it is an actual cut with a backstory:

Seems like both the Blade Runner endings were "happy." He leaves with Rachel in both, one just shows them driving off into the sunset. That's basically implied in the other ending, anyway.

The other ending implies that they will both die very soon.

If you get the Criterion version of Brazil (It's 3 disks) they give you the Love Conquers all version along with the original one and a disk that has multiple versions of the screen play and interviews with Tom Stoppard, Terry Gilliam, etc.

And speaking of Bladerunner / Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? it is ashamed how terribly Hollywood messes up most PKD stories and novels..

Did Ridley Scott ruin the story, or did he write his OWN story, based on some character constructs from the book?

I consider it to be variations on a theme.

Hampton Fancher and David Peoples wrote the screenplay. One was brought in later and they both had their own ideas of what to do with the story. I haven't read the book, but I don't think the movie follows it closely at all.

I think Ridley is a brilliant director and this movie would have never been such a landmark without his involvement.

He had a few turkeys (GI Jane?!?), but has made some amazing films. Safe to say without this guy, BR wouldn't have been the same:

I listen to the soundtrack to Blade Runner every night at least twice...

I'm listening now.
Have been for over 12 years.
I've very likely heard this CD over 10,000 times!!!

Can't say why.
It still puts me to sleep.

one of my alltime favorite films. watch it several times a month for the past 20 years.

the most recent DVD release "Final Cut" is amazing and, the special features are more enjoyable than most other films. The "making-of" film will give you a whole new appreciation for this creation

I guess the only question that remained unanswered was if they were Nexus series, some modified Nexus, or an older series (or newer??) that did not have the age limitations.

Didn't the dialog in the original movie state(at the very end, Deckard/Rachel in a car together) that Rachel had no fixed age?

One of the voiceovers was "Tyrrell had told me Rachel was special - no termination date. I didn't know how long we had together. Who does?" And Deckard seems to have been around for years as a Blade Runner before retiring. It doesn't make a lot of sense to me for Deckard to be a Replicant. I think it's Ridley Scott's indulgence. He would have to be a Nexus 6 or later version back when they were retiring the earlier "skin jobs." He would also have been a years-earlier experiment of Tyrell's, not knowing who he really was, like Rachel. Even Rachel suspected who she was.

One of the most amazing things about that movie is how well the visual effects hold up today. All done pre-CG and digital compositing! Doug Trumbull is a genius!

Just visited one of the places it was filmed - look familiar at all - I haven't seen Bladerunner since it was first in the theaters:

Sorry for the crappy cell phone pics
