Don't put it in your pocket! - No Country for old Men

Best Scene in the movie AFAIAC.

Don't put it in your pocket, sir...

Don't Put it in your pocket it's your lucky quarter.

"where do you want me to put it?"

anywhere, just not in your pocket, where it will be mixed in the with others and it will become just a coin.....which it is.

that will go down as one of the great scenes in cinema history. I saw they film twice in the theaters and even the second time I was cringing.

I just watched it the other night, great flick.

His weapon was something, I've never seen anything like that.

Yup, I cringe every time I see that scene, that old man has no idea how close he came to dying.

so I guess this story takes place in 1980 Texas?

1958 Quarter travels 22 years to be at that spot.

Good scene. But what did it have to do with the movie?

Well, yes, he had to be in the movie since the movie was about Tommy Lee Jones' character.

The ending was perfect. And the scene underscored the moral tone of the character and the film.

Maybe you guys should go see Witless Protection again

that clip sounds like a political post here on PPOT, just a lot shorter.

only one party understands where the subject is going and the other party is just hanging on for the ride. Go figure!

I had great expectations for this movie given it won the academy award, but I was dissappointed overall. I agree with all the above, but I must add that our two-tour Vietnam veteran (Brolin) was'nt even given the opportunity to battle it out on the screen with the villian and his anti-tank weapon! I was expecting the duck and hide mother of gun battles, but all I saw was a guy on the motel floor dead, end of his part. Tommy Lee was our poet who gave it no justice. Best scene? Woody Harelson, "and you can go to hell".

3:10 to Yuma had this baby beat by a mile...............

I agree with Wayne, the movie was entertaining and unique to a certain degree but I was left thinking "This is what all the hype was about?".

I actually liked the ending though, It fit perfectly with the tone of the movie.

On a good note, Javier was great! But the movie had too many inconsistencies and combined with that horrible ending, it made me want those two hours back.

Disagree completely. NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN was fantastic. It was a movie about inevitability and consequences; if it ended any other way, it would have been a Hollywood cop-out. Moreover, I am often perplexed at the Academy's choices for Best Picture year-after-year. TITANIC? Melodramatic crap. LA CONFIDENTIAL really should have won that year. GLADIATOR? RETURN OF THE KING? THE ENGLISH PATIENT? Please.

Sometimes, however, they get it right: I thought THE DEPARTED was great. SCHINDLER'S LIST was a no-brainer, and THE SILENCE OF THE LAMBS was a great "dark horse" choice... considering the nominees, I really think that the Academy got it right this year - although I still think that INTO THE WILD should have been considered.

Look, fellas -- it's the Coen Brothers. I'm no cinematiste (just made that up, I think), but I'm a big Coen Brothers fan, and you go in expecting to be amazed and still have a "Whaaah?" sense of incompleteness. Hell, Blood Simple seemed like a gory "Three's Company" epsiode most of the time, but it was great! Fargo, Barton Fink.... hmmm... the movie's over. Whaaah? The surreality and pointlessness helps sometimes.

But, sometimes they whiff -- Ladykillers; Tuileries; Intolerable Cruelty. Yikes. Thought they had lost the thread there!

I would have preferred 2 things were different in NCFOM -- that the "main" character's death was not "off camera" and that there was more ... for the lack of a better word... "closure" at the very end.

However, that's just not the Coen Brothers' style (when doing their film noir thing -- the comedies tie up OK).

I can't wait for Burn After Reading... and for me to be eagerly anticipating something involving spectacular pinhead and black-hole of self-absorption George Clooney has never happened before.

I will agree, though, that that scene has the ability to make me uncomfortable and just pity that poor, dumb old man EVERY time I see the movie... which is probably north of 10 times now.

Notice how little music is used in the film -- when the Coen boys have used music to such fantastic effect in other movies (I do the Dude dance to "Just Dropped In" every single time I get the chance!)

I enjoyed it very much, I thought it was smart and well played. I was glad to see Tommy had a smaller part in it, if it was another Fugitive / U.S. Marshals type of movie with an elite band of government officials chasing the bad guys I would have hated it.

It was cool to see a small town overwhelmed by the events and not able to act fast enough to it, how the bad guys were having their way out there. It has been said the 80's were the wild west all over again when it came to the drug running and this was probably a good depiction of what it was like.

I knew Llewelyn was going to get it, the moment he decided to go back to the "scene" with water he was done. He knew it was stupid too and did it anyway.

I found it to be a great ride to be on and it took me away for 122 minutes. I may watch it again this weekend.

Ok, I watched it on the flight from LA on Sunday, and I had to keep restarting it.

I don't understand what happened to Tommy Lee Jone's character. He went into the hotel room, where Javier Bardem's character was hiding. Then, a few scenes later Tommy is talking to his uncle(?) about retiring.

Did I miss a scene? Did Tommy get a coin toss and win?

Either way, fantastic movie. I loved it.

Agree completely. The villan wasn't that believable & there was no ending. It was like the film broke.

The best movie I have seen in many years.

People are programed that movies have to have some climatic ending. Without one they feel lost. I love the feeling that you get trying to guess what happens to the remaining characters. Why do they have to live or die? The story just continues, just like in life. I snippet of time in the lives of people.
