Pelican vs. Rennlist

Question from a newbie?

Do most people here on Pelican belong only to Pelican (with Regard to Porsche forums) vs. belonging to both? I know there are others, but these are the most popular.

Or, is it more of belonging to both but lurking on one and posting on another?

I only ask as I've just finally joined Pelican, after lurking for quite some time, and I've already noticed distinct difference between the two. In addition, I've seen some threads on Pelican that "bash" Rennlist and I've seen threads on Rennlist that "bash" Pelican.

"Can't we all just get along?"

John

I lurk on the racing section of renlist only and purely to laugh at the fighting in the F1 threads.

I am not keen on paying to use internet forums so I'll always be a "USER" on there.

I left Rennlist (was a paid member) back in 2001. Haven't looked back...no need.

The 911 forum there is pretty poor. A couple of ego maniacs who know everything and not much else to see that is not cross posted here. The racing forum in more active as is the 944/951, 993 etc forums.

Cheers

I don't mind paying as I get a lot of "use" from it. However, I understand your position too.

When I started my blog, I did so with the idea of helping to keep me busy in an early retirement vs. trying to make money with it. Because of this I decided it would always remain free (not sure if anyone would ever pay for it anyway :-)

I was just curious as there is a different vibe here on Pelican (neither good or bad).

I like both spots and hope to make as many friends here as I have on Rennlist.

No offense, just showing raw numbers.
Find Nov 1 on the chart.

None taken. However, I would caution you that sites like compete.com are easily skewed. Just the same way that Alexa rankings can easily be skewed.

Regardless. I like both sites and think the loyalty of the users is fantastic.

Former paying member of Rennllist from many years ago. Now I go there once every month or so solely to look at classifieds. Haven't read the forums in a very long time.

Best,

Kurt

This was the first website I landed on when I googled "Porsche 911 forum." Been here ever since.

I just lost interest in RL - Got so nothing there interested me and I found myself visiting less and less. Probably been a year since I checked in.

its more friendly and accepting over here....the 911 technical forum is better over here on Pelican with more information...however the 993 technical forum is better over on Rennlist with more information etc. If iit wasnt for that, i wouldnt go over there even though i am a Rennlist member..there is just a wealth of DIY information there, as there is here as well.

This is my favorite Porsche website. I'll peruse the racing/DE section of Rennlist but that's about it. This site is truly "alive" and offers a wealth of information, diversity of opinion and just plain amusement.

For the tech forums, rennlist seems to bring in the watercooled crowd more than here, and vice-versa. For vintage 911 tech q&a, pelican wins it, hands down. I'm rebuilding my transmission right now and I can't believe the help I've got in the pelican tech forum - pros that do this for a living explaining exactly what I need to look for.

However I do spend a lot of time in the rennlist Canada forum - it seems to have become the online meeting place for Toronto-area Porsche guys, whereas the Pelican Canada forum gets a lot less traffic.

Pelican is the more mature, adult atmosphere. Even OT tends more towards polite discourse than all out poo-throwing (for the most part). RL has better information for anything watercooled, but the air-cooled knowledge here at Pelican is unparalleled. Unfortunately, to find the good information on RL you often have to slog through a lot of BS to find it. I used to be a paying member on RL, but quit visiting when I was threatened with a ban after posting positive feedback regarding a non-RL sponsor. That was the end for me.

I am a member of both but when my Rennlist "Membership" runs out it will NOT be renewed. There is definately a duality there. You are either part of the Mod's (read Randy V.) favorite group and accepted or you are an outsider that will be taunted and treated like pure horse crap. I have gained almost zero knowledge from that site. This site gives you everything you need and you don't have to be afraid of being a "noob" as you do over there.

I was a paying member on Rennlist when I first got my 911 back in 2000. I think I was a paid member for about 1-2 years on the email list. I loved it and am glad I was a member and would do it all over again, but I'm glad I eventually moved to Pelican and haven't looked back.

I started on Rennlist in the 930 (911 Turbo) Forums. A great bunch of guys in *THAT* forum, and to my knowledge, they still are. I occasionally stop back to lurk, but haven't posted anything in some time.

I don't pay for internet subscriptions, so I was just a basic user. My post count is stopped at 1986. I was planning something "special" for post number 1987 (the year of my car), but I just haven't pulled the trigger.

For a while I was trying to actively participate in both forums, but I began to feel like an internet crazed Porsche stalker...so something had to give! I just find that I get everything I need from Pelican. In addition, I purchase a lot of parts and accessories from Pelican...so this just feels like home to me.

One day I'll return to Rennlist with post number 1987...everyone will wonder who in the hell I am!

Same with the 964 Forum...superb group with a great deal of geographic diversity. The tech stuff for the 964 was excellent as well. But, since I totaled the 964 I visit less...

I check rennlist almost every day but hardly ever post there. They dont have nearly as much traffic as pelican and it seems the people are noobs most of the time. And you get the immature people and yuppies that arnt DIY kind of people more often which makes for less informative threads
