Carfax: Worth it?
I am going to buy a BMW tomorrow and wanted to know if anyone thought that a carfax was imperative. No, this is not a solicitation for a free report
. The car is a one owner car, purchased at a dealer and it was serviced there the entire time. I was able to have a BMW salesman pull the vin and give me all the items repaired or fixed (not many, maybe 6 times over 4 years. I test drove the car and it seems correct, other then a few items that where mentioned (tires, front bumper damage). These where taken into the price. I've done some research on Carfax and it doesn't seem to be so glowingly recommend by many. The car is 2003 BMW 540I E39 sport model with M package. 38,000 miles Black on Black.

If a Carfax is clean, that doesn't mean much. But if a Carfax shows wierdness having gone on in the past, it's a good place to start looking for problems the seller is trying to hide from you.
