335

Sometimes I scare myself.

For the first time ever today, I bench pressed 335 pounds. Three sets of five at 335 to be exact.

I've put on about 10 pounds in the last year. I was concerned. Then I realized I went from bench pressing 315 lbs. in three sets of three to bench pressing the same weight in four sets of six. Two weeks ago I decided to see if I could do 325 lbs. I did four sets of six.

I'm 6'1" and weigh 254 lbs.. I can leg press 700 lbs. Looking in the mirror, I think I'm built like a miniature version of a World's Strongest Man contestant. I have a bit of a gut, but you can see the mass in the shoulders, chest, and arms.

In college (8 years ago), I was 165 lbs. and could bench press 135 lbs.

I've never taken any diet supplements. I've never taken steroids or any other hormones or mass-building supplements. I don't watch my diet--in fact, I eat like $h!t. The only thing I've done is hit the gym three times a week for the past 12 years.

I wonder if I could hit 405 lbs. on the bench press? I feel like I've broken out of a three-year long plateau and can move up rapidly for a little while...

Remind me not to smack you in the face if I ever meet you in person. Don't know why I would though, we seem to agree on most things. Still... remind me.

Nevermind.

My wife describes me as "intimidating".

In my mind, I still see myself as a 165 lb. rail. I haven't gotten into a fight since I was 17. Mentally, I still see myself as getting my @$$ kicked swiftly.

Violence is not something I go to quickly, nor is it my first instinct.

If all you've been doing is lifting weights and posting here, you probably will.

Yeah. I'm pretty sure my friend who is 170 and does jujitsu could make quick work of me.

I'm pretty certain that just about anyone who knows how to fight could kick my ass in short order--but I certainly look like a tough guy. Looks are deceiving.

Maybe I shouldn't start threads when I've had 4 LITs....

scottmandue 04-11-2008 07:07 PM

If it makes you feel better you could beat me up... then I would sue you for your 951.

Just don't hit me in the face!

Note to self: Don't f*ck with legion.

That is quite impressive, legion. Anyone that have struggled with upping their best weight/rep/set series, knows that it takes a lot of hard work and pain. Weight lifting and body building has unfortunately always been looked upon as 'small penis substitution' activities. I applaud you for your progress. I know how tough it is.

Now the only thing we need is a few good pics of that Arnie body! :D

svandamme 04-12-2008 01:56 AM

i don't see what all the hoopla is all about
once worked a 2 ton bench press in the shop
and i can still do it, at least 10 times before i get bored with the thing

That is some serious weight, Legion. Three sets of 5 with 335 is incredible. Most people have no idea how heavy 335 lbs really is when it's rushing at you like a runaway freight... My max (a long time ago) was 295 and I thought that was decent. 335 is huge.

No posts about a BMI well into the 'obese' range?

Fortunately, I dont picture you that way. I associate you with the avatar that looked to be Samir Nagheenanajar from office space.
