Interesting quote from Wiki:

“ "When F. Scott Fitzgerald pronounced that the very rich "are different from you and me", Ernest Hemingway's famously dismissive response was: "Yes, they have more money." Today he might well add: much, much, much more money. The people at the top of America's money pyramid have so prospered in recent years that they have pulled far ahead of the rest of the population, an analysis of tax records and other government data by The New York Times shows. They have even left behind people making hundreds of thousands of dollars a year. Call them the hyper-rich."- David Cay Johnston, The New York Times.[37]

It's all relative. If you are an 'untouchable' in India, a lower middle class person in the US is 'rich.' If you hang out with billionaires and make 500K a year, you may feel 'poor.' I know a bloke who is probably worth a couple hundred million, who was whining about how his jet wasn't up to snuff with his peers. And another worth almost as much who lives in a modest two bedroom apt, lives like a middle class guy, and donates huge sums. Who is more 'rich?'

But if pressed for a number today, I would say someone in the US is 'rich' today if assets exceed 10 million. 1-10 million is 'mass affluent,' and less than that is 'middle class' (though clearly 'upper middle' if anywhere near one million in assets).

I can't agree. I would have to peg the rich at 250 million plus in liquid assets. Less than that your just upper middle class or affluent. But the democrats tax everyone that makes over 10K per year as though they were really rich.

I will now support my 250M number. First if your really rich, you have to have a house in at least 5 countrys. A good house cost about 10 million to 50 million now days. So that kills a total of at least 50 million in fixed assets. Next you need to pay the staff and taxes on those properties, there goes about 5 mill per year or more. Then you have to have a Jet aircraft and and 3 pilots on standby. 10 to 20 mill per year. A yacht or two with staff, thats a cool 100 mill assets plus staff of about 2 mill per year, plus taxes of 10 mill per year. And WTF kind of rich guy dosen't own a big company of some kind to generate all that cash. Thats 1 billion of so plus in fixed assets. Taxes are into the 100 of millions at this point. Throw in a few cheep cars like a Porsche or Ferrari or two, plus taxes and your looking at a whole lot of dough, just to be rich.

I think the Donalds personal expenses were over 35 million PER MONTH, thats only almost 1/2 billion bucks per year in personal expenses!

TTYL,
Cheers,

My comment was not not meant to be taken seriously.

I know a guy who owns a body shop who drives a hummer he writes off. It had to be a certain size/weight so he had to "go large" to qualify.

The Porsche comment was for meant to amuse Wayne.. The more he advertises that thing, the sweeter the write off...SmileWavySmileWavy...You my boy Blue!
