Is that really true?

I always thought that eyebrows and eyelashes never stopped growing at a certain length. But they instead have a limited lifespan before falling out. They can only get so long during that limited lifespan, which keeps them, as a whole, short.

Nathans_Dad 05-03-2008 02:38 PM

Dude, some people's eyebrows never stop growing...case in point Andy Rooney.

Naw, they just are staying in their follicles longer than most!

Incidentally, Trek, I just finished my flagstone patio. It's a basically random selection of natural, mostly untrimmed stones, but looking at it closely one can see patterns that indicate that intelligent design was involved.
Thank you! :D

I believe in God, but that doesn't fly for me.

BTW, I saw Jesus in the toast, but the sand dune was definitely Confucius.

so ones emotions are now proof? Revelation!!

Let me answer it for you...you discount all of the above. That's ok, I wouldn't expect you to understand since you don't look for God in things, you look for things to prove to yourselves that there isn't a God.

Can I prove God exists scientfically? No and I never plan to try. God isn't a being that needs to be proven scientifically. I will continue to chuckle that those who try to use science to disprove God, however...it's just as futile.

Do you see God in the eyes of the lymphoma patient Rick?

and while the human body is complex, it is so far from anything resembling efficient, let alone perfection, that saying it was created by God is analogous to saying God was a moron. If the human body is the best God can do, it's proof against the existence of God. At least that's what my bio/biochem degree tells me.

"If we go back to the beginning we shall find that ignorance and fear created the gods; that fancy, enthusiasm, or deceit adorned or disfigured them; that weakness worships them; that credulity preserves them, and that custom, respect and tyranny support them in order to make the blindness of men serve their own interests."
Baron d'Holbach

I always liked how he put it.

There really is no reason for this thread. Evolution exists, "creationism" or "intelligent design" is a fairy-tale perpetuated by people with money to be made or weak minds~

I agree, here is another:

"If a faithful account was rendered of Man's ideas upon Divinity, he would be obliged to acknowledge, that for the most part the word "gods" has been used to express the concealed, remote, unknown causes of the effects he witnessed; that he applies this term when the spring of the natural, the source of known causes, ceases to be visible: as soon as he loses the thread of these causes, or as soon as his mind can no longer follow the chain, he solves the difficulty, terminates his research, by ascribing it to his gods... When, therefore, he ascribes to his gods the production of some phenomenon... does he, in fact, do any thing more than substitute for the darkness of his own mind, a sound to which he has been accustomed to listen with reverential awe?"
Baron de Holbach, Systeme de la Nature, 1770.

Actually I think that the dying often show God at work in their lives more than the healthy. If you worked with the dying in a regular basis like I do you might know that.

I think you are confusing man with God here Rick. I think it's interesting that you only list "pretty" things when you describe God. Telling.

God, creator of man, creator of lymphoma, aren't we lucky to have him.

Wow Shaun there's some serious bitterness there. I suppose the God you would prefer would just keep everyone alive forever and abolish all sickness in the world while writing "Hey Shaun, it's me God" in fire in the sky.

No wonder you never see him.

Oh, and don't try to attack my faith with your petty insults, it isn't very appealing.

Thanks for posting this and thanks also for your post, Steve. I'm going to look up d'Holbach and read some of his stuff.

The quote Steve posted is dated 1770 - period Age of Enlightenment material!

Best,

You're too emotional Rick, but we already knew that. And just using your terms to describe God. You think he's all butterflies and puppy dogs. He's not.

And you have no idea whether I've seen him or not, but again, nice emotional response.

Nathans_Dad 05-03-2008 07:34 PM

Shaun, you stepped over the line. You have the audacity to belittle my faith based on what you read in a 4 line post on a BBS. You know what Shaun? THAT is what's telling.

I used to think that everyone on the board gave you too hard a time...not anymore. Congrats on sinking to a new low.

Re-read it Rick, I stand by it. I wasn't challenging your faith at all, only giving my take on the human spirit. I place more faith in Man than I do in God. and when Man does something "miraculous" through faith in God, that faith is only a catalyst for what was already inside them. I define that as the human spirit. If that's belittling your faith, I'm sorry, but it's how I feel. if you see the human spirit as some connection with God, that's fine. I prefer the internal (what I know) vs. the external (what I hope I know) in getting through life.

You most certainly have not!

Shaun, I'm disappointed in your reckless posts:confused:

God did create man perfect. Man chose to disobey God leading to imperfection and death. Remember?

If Adam had not sinned, where would he be now? ( not a trick question )

Sin is a completely abstract concept Trek, God created it, not man. The very idea that God created a perfect Man who "sinned" (God's term) automatically defines God as imperfect.

Reckless? God created Man. God created Lymphoma. What's your point?
