A new Cayman demographic?

After the midpoint of our fun run, about 40 of us pulled into a parking lot. After getting out of my car, I was politely approached by a young Cayman owner to move my car in order to complete the row with other Caymans for a Cayman only photograph.

How do you respond?

rcecale 04-19-2008 09:09 PM

You weren't driving a black Audi wagon by chance, were you? ;)

You feign outrage, then smile and politely comply and move your car. You are a Porsche owner aren't you?

Later, you politely approach them to move their cars so you can take a 911 only photograph.

*sigh*

So they want to take a Cayman photo. So what? Being a bit overly sensitive me thinks.

Just think. 30 years from now, they might be the one writing this post! :)

"Some (insert future Porsche model here) owner had the gaul to ask me to move my Cayman! Its almost like this kid didn't know what a Cayman was! And those (insert future Porsche model here) owners never give me the wave!"

:)

Now you know how 944 drivers feel.:(

Aurel 04-20-2008 05:22 AM

How many Caymans vs 911s in the whole pack? Maybe you were just hanging with the wrong crowd...

Tell him "nice RX8".

Komenda Fan 04-20-2008 07:26 AM

Don't see anything wrong with that, I'm sure 911 drivers have done the same in the past....

I respond by moving my car and then offer to take some pics of them with their rides.

Really is there any other possible response?

Nope.

A friend of mine is hosting a old Chevy truck get together at his farm next week. ..a gathering of, "Stove bolts". Last year I gave a bunch of them rides in my 964 in trade for rides in their trucks.

Smiles all around.

Obviously you were among other "car guys".

I am lucky to know a bunch of Porsche guys who really do not care what other cars are there as long as everyone is having fun. I have told friends of mine these guys are FAR from being Porsche snobs.

I better group of folks could not be found.

Water coolers like to stick together in flocks. I think they tend to get intimidated by old air cooled models. Maybe they are afraid they will be looked upon as office dwelling girlymen with shiny white hands..? :D

This was our local PCA, it was a great drive through parts of north eastern PA and NJ. Out of pack only a hand full of us were air cooled cars, the rest were mixed, but there were a number of Caymans.

Maybe so, I enjoyed the driving part the most.

As for how I responded, I actually didn't. A 911 guy next to me told the guy to have all the Caymans park at the other end of the parking lot next to where the restrooms were. It was said in a jokingly way, but the Gayman owner turned around and walked away, looked a little ticked - oh well...

Don't get me wrong, I like the Cayman - In fact, I wouldn't have a problem moving my car so all his Cayman friends could be together for the appropriate Caymanship sharing... its just a new breed of owners we have to deal with I guess.

I'll second that and add those guys with their "944s" aren't bad either. LOL

And on this topic: Some people just won't let others have any fun. I would have said give me a minute 'til I take a picture and then I would have moved it. No real loss anyway, most boxster owners I've met are awesome but it's the few a-holes that I could do without.

Noah930 04-20-2008 03:17 PM

Would you have felt any different had a bunch of 914 guys wanted to take an all-914 photo together?

lowbob84 04-20-2008 05:12 PM

Maybe I'm missing something, but if he was polite when he asked you to move, what's the big deal? You go on and say later that you wouldn't have a problem moving; however, some 911 guy quipped in before you could reply. So what stopped you from moving anyways??

If I was the guy, I'd be a little ticked off too. Especially if I had been really polite about asking you to move. Maybe an all Cayman picture was really important to him or something, and then you went and shat all over his day by not moving.. my $.02 worth
