Wow!! Talk about a self serving lie

Sex scandal drives Porsche away
Saturday 19th April 2008

Max Mosley's sex scandal looks to have far-reaching consequences for F1 with Porsche revealing they will steer clear of the sport as a result.

Mosley has been heavily criticised in recent weeks after the News of the World newspaper published a story and video of the FIA President involved in a five-hour orgy with prostitutes.

Calls for the 67-year-old to step down have resulted in the FIA calling a Extraordinary General Assembly for June 3rd during which a vote of confidence will be taken.

However, even if Mosley is removed from office, the damage to F1's reputation could linger.

"After the affair with Max Mosley and the women it would not be very savoury to get involved (in Formula One) now," Porsche chairman Wolfgang Porsche told German news magazine Stern.

I thought Porsche made it VERY clear that it would not waste money on a sport that would lend no direct development for its street cars?

So where the hell is this coming from?

I just lost a little more respect for Porsche as it jumps on an obvious bandwagon. There go my dreams for a Cayenne track car......

Disclaimer - I am not condoning what Max did, I just think its utter bullcrap that everyone is sooooo righteous that they have to but into this mess.

I think Porsche would make a good engine supplier.

That at least would have some value for road cars.

And what about ALMS prototype? They are pretty close to F1 cars with fenders.

That's kinda surprising, given Porsche's storied history in endurance racing.

You'd think they'd be all over a 5 hour F1 enduro

Still looking for the quote but found this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Porsche_3512

Quote:
The Porsche 3512 was a racing engine designed by Porsche for use in Formula One racing during the 3.5-liter normally-aspirated era of Grand Prix racing. The engine was a V12 configuration, with an 80-degree vee angle, and displacement was just under 3.5 liters (hence the designation 3512). The engine was also unusual for having a power take-off from the center of the engine. [1] The engine was used by the Footwork team at the start of the 1991 Formula One season. The engine was Porsche's first complete design for Grand Prix racing since 1987.

The Porsche 3512 was intended for the new Footwork FA12, but the size and bulk of the engine meant the car had to be re-designed to install it properly,[2] so the 1990-based car called the A11C was used for the first three race meetings.[3] Both Michele Alboreto and Alex Caffi failed to qualify for the United States GP, but Alboreto managed to qualify the car at Interlagos until retiring from the race. Alboreto also qualified for the San Marino GP, but failed to qualify for the Monaco, Canadian, and Mexican Grands Prix. Alex Caffi failed to qualify for the next three events, and was replaced for the North American rounds after sustaining injuries from a road accident.[4] Stefan Johansson took his place at Canada, qualifying for the race but retiring with an engine failure. Stefan failed to qualify for the Mexican GP, which ultimately be the last appearance of the Porsche 3512 engine at a World Championship event.

One reason the Porsche engine was so uncompetitive was the weight of engine; when items like the clutch, flywheel, and other ancillaries were installed, it weighed 418 pounds, compared to the Ferrari V12 (308 lb.) and the Honda V12 (352 lb.) racing at the same time. The novel method of drawing power from the center of the engine led to oil pressure problems.[5]

By the time the Footwork team appeared at the French Grand Prix, the team switched back to the Ford-Cosworth DFR 3.5 V8 engines for the rest of the year, in a modified version of the car designated the FA12C.[6] Porsche pulled out of Formula One again a few months after the French Grand Prix. The announcement was made around the time of the 1991 Japanese Grand Prix.[7] [8]

A replacement for the 3512 was in development at the time of Porsche's withdrawal from Formula One. This V10 engine would not be completed until several years later, when it was modified for use in the stillborn Porsche LMP project in 2000. The engine eventually became mass-produced when a further variant was chosen as the powerplant of the Porsche Carrera GT supercar.

i just think it's immoral at that age to push the envelope so badly
let's face it, it would devastate and traumatize all hookers involved if he would croak during the orgy...

please, think about the hookers

Porsche needs a factory on this side of the pond that builds 4 door sedans. A wise move for Porsche would be to go NASCAR.

Funny aside on this. Some years back, the April (fools) issue of STAR, the Mercedes Club magazine, Frank Barrett ran a spoof article about Mercedes going NASCAR.

I made a cheap photocopy of the piece, handed it to my local detroit iron mechanic friend...he a big NASCAR fan. His face saddened, then he said: "Nascar just isn't the same since Dale died anyway."

Moral Panic goes F1.

Ridiculous.

Everywhere I look these days, people are all over moral discretions as a weapon against opponents. Looking so darn righteous and indignant themselves.

Ridiculous.

A man should be valued for what he accomplish in his profession, not whether he engages in a little cratch slapping. Great exercise and good fun.

Complete nonsense.

I would agree... however remember the big flap isn't so much about him banging a couple of hookers... but the questionable costumes involved.

I also can't for the life of me understand why people feel the need to film themselves doing the nasty.

What I don't get is what the guys sex life has to do with racing?

Great, I understand if my pilot, dentist, surgeon, proctologist is an alcoholic or druggy, then that may be relevant to how they perform their jobs.

If the girls high school ______ team coach is a pedaphile, or the scout master is likes little boys, ok, that's cause for alarm.

But if my favorite racecar driver likes to be saddled with a cucumber up his but and spanked with a whole chicken while wearing spike heals.... so long as he doesn't try it while he's racing....

Guys...

The support races for F1 since 1993 have been called Porsche Mobil 1 Supercup, and are essentially Cup cars. My guess is that Porsche doesn't want to be a support race series for F1 any more. That's my guess anyway.
