So far so good, Wayne. Whatever you did seems to have done the trick. IE hasn't locked up on me since I've been on PPOT tonight. Thanks a bunch!

Out of curiosity, the MySQL tables that were fragmented, do you know if it was the data portion or the indexes?

If it was on a Mac the power could go out and it wouldn't miss a beat. That is why so much of the internet runs on Macs.

Thanks, much appreciated. It seems much better.

I was about to start a thread:

I had noticed lately that things were slowing down a bit. I was just about to suggest you duplicate the files and then recopy them so you'd be using the non-frag files. Now be sure to keep an eye on your CPU cycles as they have always been really, really low when the database hangs, most likely a IO thing.
And pay no attention to those jokers who try to sell you on that other OS, they're just jealous of all the experience you get using a windows based system.

Wayne, FYI -

It's definitely running better; however I have noticed a bit of stray code appearing at the top of some pages:

-1)) { fetch_object('currentPost').scrollIntoView(true); }">

Don't know if anyone else is getting it or if it's Firefox-specific, but I have seen it occasionally. It's intermittent, but it did show up on the "lets write a story" thread after I posted a reply.

Edit: it also appeared after I submitted this. Possibly related?

Jim

^ I guess you could do that if you wanted to have a slow ram disk.

i suppose a slow ram disk is still superfast compared to hard disk
fragmentation is hardly an issue
