It bothered you because our mixed up society values stuff over everything else. And, it's tough to be different... even if the majority is totally messed up. I've done enough accounting work to know that the size of the castle or nameplate on the car can have very little to do with what people are worth.

Jim, you're a loser. Face it. ;):D

Like Wayne said, money is luck of the draw in most case.

Jims5543 05-05-2008 11:15 AM

Thanks Terry, I feel better now.

Perk up buttercup. Sit down and I'll tell you a story:

I had a friend that by 21 was driving a brand new Diablo, had a house on the river and a 34' Scarab. Then he got busted for running a tout/bookie service. Only got 2 years house arrest but the FBI seized everything.

Last time I talked to him was 6 months ago and he was selling mortgages. I'll guess where that went.

The best money is honest money even if its only a small percentage.

Yup,

I think you have done 1000 times better in life than that a55hole.

You are truly the richer man.

Measure your wealth not by what you can buy, but rather by what you have that you wouldn't sell at any price.

I tried this one with my bank today and I gotta tell ya...it didn't get me too far. Apparently they use an entirely different set of metrics to measure wealth:D

Play your cards right and you can share the car.

CJFusco 05-05-2008 12:38 PM

Personally, I'd rather be able to drive a RX7 fast than a Ford GT slow.

The Chris 05-05-2008 04:05 PM

Well, I beat a 2007 Porsche 997C2S at the last autocross, so there is a lot more to driving than just the car you show up in.....just like there is a lot more to life than being able to throw money at things ;)

DanielDudley 05-05-2008 04:13 PM

Jim, I have to say you are one of the most likable guys on this forum. But your avatar is killing me.

I just hate watching you beat yourself up like that. ;) In my eyes you are a rich man.

DUK 05-05-2008 04:55 PM

Guy sounds like a total tool. And I agree with your son, up to his eyeballs in debt. Or crooked as "The Devlis Backbone". ( have to say you need to be proud of your son for having such a head on his shoulders. I wonder where he gets that? Something about an apple and a tree.)

Now go out and fire up that Bar-becue, gather the family and be grateful.

Since when has a ford gt been a 300K car? More like 140-200 still not chump change. Plus there no where near as cool as the old ones

Dueller 05-05-2008 06:27 PM

Saw a bumper stticker that might be apropos next time you see himm: "Great car. But can you drive it?"

Well put...money does not make a man or his character...it usually corrupts it. I typically find when people rant on about themselves its because they are empty inside and have nothing.

I honestly have no clue how much it costs, I filed it away as a car I will never have. Kind of like a GT3 or a CGT or any late model Ferrari. It could be a 100K car but I can still not afford... strike that, justify spending of financing that kind of money to buy a car.

I think what is really bothering me is that after the fact, I feel like I was having my face rubbed in it. If that makes sense.

fintstone 05-05-2008 06:54 PM

Maybe the guy worked his ass off to earn the money for a couple of nice cars...was justifiably proud of them...and wanted to share with a friend.

K. Roman 05-05-2008 06:58 PM

Sorry Jim, I didn't know we we're both on Pelican! I'll give you a ride in the GT next DE! :D

My initial thought, but after replaying the morning through my head it was more than that, he had nothing nice to say about any, of our old employers, was bad mouthing everyone, and carried on about how great his company is.

Also we were not friends, acquaintances yes, we sat in the same classroom for 1 semester but were hardly buddies. I cannot for the life of me even remember him, 20 years ago is a lifetime to me.

I looked for him after the event, believe it or not, to exchange e-mails and he had jetted early.
