carpool?

I finally broke down and started carpooling this morning.
I used to carpool as a matter of convenience but all too often it was a PITA.
Now i'm doing it because I can tell myself I'm only paying $1.90 a gallon for gas (half of what I really pay).
So, how many carpool, how regularly, and if not what's the reason?

Depending on the day, my friends and I will carpool to caddying, but only if we have set loop times and know that we will all get done around the same time. Otherwise it is way too inconvenient to wait around for people. And its only an 8 mile drive so the gas isn't too bad.

When I was living 45 miles out I carpooled with another guy from my office, but now I've moved to the other side of work and I haven't found anyone to carpool with yet.

Nobody goes my route. The trip downstairs to the home office is just too far out of the way

I carpooled with my wife for a year, since we both worked in downtown DC and could take the HOV lanes. Commuting into DC any other way is hell on Earth and it's no picnic even in the carpool lanes.

I hope I can carpool after I transfer to Texas! At the moment I don't carpool because nobody I work with goes my way, but the Sounder is an option since it runs a reverse commute.

My hours aren't regular enough to be depended on. I could ride the bus, but I actually enjoy the ride sort of.

I walk ~1.2 miles to work. My wife's office is on the way, so we share the sidewalk.

I tried the past 3 months but will never again. Too much BS for a 40mile one way ride!- rush to be on time just to wait for the passenger (at times not show or call at all), listen to his BS all the way to work (and back) get nothing in return, late home- leave earlier.

NO MORE, f@#$ the climate. Plus now that it’s nice there is no way his fat a$$ is getting in my Porsche!

I used to carpool with my wife. Then we moved, and I changed jobs, and now it just doesn't work. But then, my commute is only 10 miles, and she commutes on the Metro, so it isn't that big of a deal. There's only one other guy that I work with who lives in the same area as I do, and he works dramatically different hours ... it just doesn't work here.

I used to commute; When I lived in Huntington Beach I commuted to El Segundo.

Then they moved the office to Orange (next to Anaheim stadium).

Then I moved up to Santa Monica, commuted to Orange. 100 miles both ways, bad days were 3 hours EACH way. I did that for about a year and then decided to give up the job (which I liked). It was a small office and I needed my car for work so carpooling of public transit just would not work.

So, I took a job down town. Santa Monica to downtown for 2 years, drove - bus a some times - that wasn't bad. Then we moved to El Segundo and I started taking the bus regularly - IT WAS AWESOME. The commuter buses have limited stops so it was quick to down town and I would take a nap for 20-30 minutes both ways.

Then I got a job in Santa Monica and had to drive again, el segundo to santa monica. Wasn't bad but wasn't great. Then I got a job 5 miles away and finally, most recently 2 miles away.

If I can help it - I will never commute again.

The new thing now is working from home (telecommuting). But frequent hikes up to CT ruin it.

I go to the studio most days, but it's where I end up at the end of the day and the time I end. Last Friday, I started in Santa Clarita (home) went to Burbank, the Universal Studios, then Acton and finally Fillmore, about 200 miles in one day. Oh, started at 7 AM and got home at 1:30 AM. Not an totally unusual day. Today, went to the Studio at 8 and found myself done for the day three miles from my house at 3:45 PM, not unusual either.

I'm jealous of you guys that can live close to work. I'm in aerospace and good housing near airports is pretty much non-existent.

I wish I could, but I don't have a set schedule and end up driving all over the greater L.A. area.
