"Garage find" Ghia
I've been looking for a Ghia like the 1970 coupe I had in high school/college for quite a while (years). Good, clean unmolested examples are becoming increasingly hard to find. So, I'm doing my normal internet searches and come across for a '70 model for sale in TX. I contacted the person who found the car. Here's the story: The seller purchased an estate in Texas- land with a small house with a garage. The garage was chocked floor to ceiling of junk-old lawn chairs, toys, paint cans-you get the picture. As the new property owner is in the process of cleaning out the garage, they discover this Karmann Ghia under all of the junk! The car has been sitting since 1993. The car was purchased from a dealership in Austin in 1969. The original owner had the car for a year and titled it to a relative. It has the original "Albert Blue" paint (well scratched), no rust and less than 42K well documented miles. It has the normal issues that a sitting car would (rusty gas tank, etc.) but I couldn't be happier. It will be a fun journey getting this great old Ghia back in shape.

Wow. That's really nice.
|
Ray that is amazing. I too live in Acworth and went out to TX in March to buy my 911. Small world but we should meet up one day.

OMG! That is one heck of a good find! That thing has the potential of looking new again with many original parts simply needing some cleanup. That is one of the cleanest "barn finds" I have yet to see on here. Congrats!!!!

Congrats, nice find!
Now if memory serves me right the last time I owned a Ghia I stuffed a 2.0 911 engine and 901 transaxle in my '70. Keep it stock, looks great! Good Luck. |
nice find. are you going to restore it or just use it as a daily driver?
|
That looks great! I"m jealous.

Sweet!!

Thanks all. I'm thinking I might just drive it "as is" for a while- but it is a weekender for sure. It's a good starting point for a long term keeper so I'll do it correctly (stock) but not so much that I can't enjoy- BTDT. I'm shickled titless.
Jay, do you do any PCA events? I do all the track stuff and will concour on May 18th. We should meet. |
Nice.
Thanks for the story. |

Well Ray, there went your 3.6 upgrade cash...

Very nice! Cars like that with so few miles are hard to find.
One car that may someday replace my 911 as a toy car is a Ghia Convertible. I had a super nice '69 when I was in high school. Wonder where that car is now... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/attac...1&d=1024011970 |
Beautiful find! Where's Thom, he'd dig this.

leeh do you know what that is worth now? verts are going thru the roof. we felt good at 7400 bucks and about another 1800 into foo foo stuff maint brakes spare tire front carpet tools cv's battery etc. $9200 bucks would be what it would take for g/friend to sell and we are not even close to finishing. headliner carpet door panels radio/cd spkrs etc. then exterior seals new front windshield and molding blah blah. we will be lucky at getting done at 15000 bucks when were done. e-bay ghias are thru the roof! you can buy a 911 cheaper its nuts along with vw vans going thru the roof! |
