the boy's first range day
![]() A trip to an outdoor event fell through so I took the boy to the local range today. Shot a Ruger .22 revolver and Mk3. Too many FTF with the Mk3 - cheap range ammo. He said my 9mm was "too loud". I suspect he'll get used to it... |

![]() ![]() We don't agree on much, which is funny since we are kinda in the same line of work, and share many of the same interest, huge props to you for teaching your son to respect, not fear guns!!!

Just make sure that he knows how much damage a gun can do. Proper respect is a good thing with a firearm. Take him somewhere with a watermelon and let him see what happens, then hopefully he will be careful with them the rest of his life.

Nice to see. I have a 4 year old daughter, and I can't wait until she can shoot a .22 rifle.

I went to the range with my wife and Jordi in Las Vegas today. My wife was such a terrible shooter until today. I bought her a Walther P-22 just so she had something that used cheap ammo, could feel included and plink away while I honed the chops on the adult guns. Today she finally turned a corner and became a promising shooter. I always thought shooting could be learned but not taught. I clicked about 13 yrs. ago after a lifetime of shooting. Hopefully, my wife gets better and better. While at the range today, there was a woman qualifying for her CCW. Kinda scary what they consider a passing grade. Looking back on going to the range as a kid with my dad, I think the best he could for me was to teach me how to handle guns responsibly. It took a while before I got good.
BTW, I've seen Seahawk's boy with guns and it's impressive to watch someone that young handle guns with excellent safety and etiquette. I don't think I was even that smooth and knowledgeable when I was his age.

Rick, was great to see you and your wife yesterday at the range. While you where playing with the long gun I ask her to change the way she was gripping the gun .. seems to have made a difference, she was blasting the 10 ring on that target!!! Take a look at the YHM Phantom flash hider, but I will recommend to have a gunsmith take a look at the threads on the barrel.
Nostatic, I am looking forward to do the same with my kids (7 and 5 now). The oldest one is almost ready, just need to find the proper 'timing' to do it, the wife is not crazy about the idea ....

That's pretty cool, Todd. You've prompted me to get my monkey some live fire experience.
Best, |

The ex wasn't really into it until recently. I think it is that he is older, she knows that anything he does "with me" is a good thing for him, and it is safer than him riding motorcycles offroad
![]() He's just a *tad* excited about it. I'll probably pick up some .22 for him to use. I would get a Sig but I haven't heard a single good thing about the Mosquito so maybe a Walther or more likely a Ruger. |

My first gun was a Remington single shot .22. You can't go wrong with a Walther P-22. They can be found for around $250-$275 NIB.
