I lose/destroy sunglasses at a disheartening pace but sprung for my first pair of "expensive" ones a year ago. My tastes are simple - aviator style, glass lenses. A local hole-in-the-wall eyeglass repair shop sold me Ray-Bans for $70, tax included. Says they sell for $100-200 in dept. stores. Not polarized, but good quality and comfortable.

There are lots of good brands out there. I like Serengeti Drivers for flying/driving. They cut a lot of the glare and haze out. In fact I find myself putting them back on when it's hazy or cloudy just because they make my eyes feel less strain. Kind of spendy though.
