Race in '08
 

As an outsider, I find the whole race issue in this election astonishing. Of all the attributes of a President, I would have thought genetic background or sex would have been pretty far down the list. Maybe I'm wrong.....

The guy is a perpetual lie machine and a socialist. Race has been an issue in as much as his disdain for the white race has become known.

As you are aware, Australia discarded it's "whites only" immigration policy in 1973. In 2000, Australia's population was more than 80% white European. When you've developed a little diversity come back and we'll have a talk about tolerance and racism.

It is actually pretty true.

My Mom emigrated from England in the 50's. When she would go back to the UK in the '60s she would hear all about how racisit and terrible America was..

Fast forward to the London transit bombings, the crazed sheiks setting up shop and open third world immigration and the conversation these days about "tolerance and racism" is very different.

How so? I just thought it funny that an Aussie would comment on American race relations.

Fix your own house before you even ask me about mine. I don't know him at all, could be working tirelessly to improve race relations in his country, sees the ridiculous nonsense going on here and asks about it. Maybe he is one of the 20%, I have no idea.

Think about it. A fellow from a country that had a "whites only" immigration policy till the '70's finds the race issue in our national election "astonishing".

Not if he is under 30 years old and has a grasp of Australian history which is commensurate with a comparable American(ie, utterly clueless). It is entirely possible he had no idea this was the policy in the past.

Perhaps he is surprised that the US, which went through the Civil Rights Revolution over 40 years ago has not progressed more quickly. We have a black man on the SCOTUS, and have for a long time, we have a black woman as our secretary of state. WTF is wrong with us if we won't consider a black man for POTUS?

I have lived here all my life, am relatively erudite and intelligent, but often find race relations in this country baffling.

BTW, the color of his skin has nothing to do with why I would never vote for Mr Obama

No, Race doesn't matter much. It's intelligence.
Racism is born from fear, fear from ignorance,ignorance from stupidity.
The people who would not vote for Obama because his father is from Africa wouldn't vote for someone like him anyways, he is too smart. They fear his intelligence more than his fathers birthplace. It is just harder to admit.
Your average hillbilly would rather say "i ain't voting for that black guy" long before he or she would say "I ain't voting for that smart guy". It is more socially acceptable in some places.

How does this get so skewed? Over 90% of blacks vote for 'The Messiah." You could replace him with OJ & the numbers wouldn't change. If 90 of white white people voted for the white guy, there would be no Obama.

Before Obama 100% of the white voters voted for the white guy.

What are you really afraid of?

I am really afraid that if Mr Obama is elected POTUS, his policies will ruin this country irrepairably from an economic standpoint. If he is elected and does what he says he will do(which he will not, because he is a liar, and he won't be able to manage to do what he intends to do successfully) he will strengthen the position of the regime in Iran by giving them legitimacy. He would encourage our enemies to test him due to his youth and inexperience.

Sort of like that Missile thing in Cuba right after Kruschev sized up JFK as a country club wuss in Vienna, or wherever that was, and decided to give him a little cup check. You know, the get together Mr Obama referred to recently in a speech that almost turned the planet into a piece of radioactive glass.

Pretty straight appraisal of the Obama candidacy.

Ruin this country economically, are you kidding. Look at what the current administration has done, your children will still be paying for this damage.
He probably will do whatever he wants considering there is going to be a democratic president, house and senate.
Doesn't Iran already have a legitimately elected government.
As far as enemies testing him, I doubt he could do worse than this administration. They were warned, knew it was coming and it still happened on their watch.
That thing you are talking about was the
cuban missile crisis. When missiles were pointed at the whitehouse and against advice Kennedy went to the whitehouse to do his job. Unlike our current cheerleader was in a plane and circling the midwest until it was safe for him to comedown. After all, the east coast had been attacked. That scared look on his face as he was circling Nebraska is priceless.
I really doubt things could get any worse, don't be afraid.
