Ebay: 1989 Turbo cab, 363 miles, Buy it now for $109,000

All:

eBay item number: 300227124596

Isn't that more than a 997? Is the price realistic? Wouldn't driving it cost you big $$$ up to, say, the first 1k on the clock?

Very nice car!

-Not sure how to post a link, cutting & pasting doesn't work, IIRC.

Cheers,

Paul.

I think the price is realistic. Perhaps to low!

+1, if the car is as advertised.

All I can think is "Why in the world would someone want to do that?"

I mean, it's kind of a cool fantasy, but when presented in reality, it kinda doesn't make much sense to me.

Of course, there's a lot of things I don't know much about, I guess.

Maybe the guy bought two in '89, and the other one is his driver?

The stupid thing is that it cost about $80k new in '89, (about $150k in today's dollars), it hasn't even kept-up w/ inflation. Assuming that someone bought it for an investment, the guy is a moron. He could have put that money in the stock market and have several million today. And there is no guarantee that someone will even buy it for $109k, the way the economy is going right now.

He needs to hang on to it another 20 or 30 years until gasoline is history, then maybe it will bring some millions as a relic to a different age.

Exactly, hence my comment about driving it over that first 1,000 miles threshold. I think if you ran the odometer up to, say, 20k, then you'd see a fairy drastic drop in value.

That said, this is a fantastic looking car- and I hope someone buys it who can really enjoy it.

Seeing as how the guy has two, maybe we should invite him to join the Pelican community?

Cheers,

Paul.

I don't get this at all. If I were to buy this I could never drive it cause it would be nothing more than another used turbo. Sort of like the Toyota Supra I saw on ebay about 3 or 4 years ago. It only had like 48 miles or something and still at the Toyota dealer with sticker still on the window. The person who purchased it was going to customize it sort of in the Fast and the Furious kind of way. Why spend the extra money on something like this and then drive it. Would have to be for non driving purpose like a museum or something.

Looks like it sold through buy-it-now for $109,000.
