In Loving Memory - Son's Horse Passes On
In Loving Memory....
It is with great sorrow of our recent loss of a loved one...Lollipop. Lollipop, who was a wonderful horse, passed away on Friday, May 23, 2008 of a severe injury to his foot. Lollipop will always hold a huge place in our hearts and will be remembered for his big heart. Our Son perfected his riding skills on this mount. He was half draw horse and required a firm demand. He will be missed. ![]() ![]()

My heartfelt condolensces to your family, and especially your son. The loss of a pet is one of the hardest things a person can go thru, and doubly so for kids.
A lot of personality in Lollipop's face - God speed. |

My condolences, Lube. I grew up with ponies that were more wild than trained, but they were loved and lived for what seemed like forever. Two of them lived into their 30s, that we could document, before passing on. They might have been older, we don't know exactly how old they were when we got them. They died only a year or two apart. It wasn't anything romantic like they couldn't live without each other; they hated each other, it was that they were both too stubborn to die any sooner and they lasted that long. I used to call one of them the immortal Shetland Pony.
They died only a couple of years ago, and as an adult I was terribly sad at their passing and still wish I could pat those old nags on the head, grab their lower lips like they hated me to do while I scratched their ears, which they loved, one more time. Tell your son he'll never forget his first horse and that Lollipop served her purpose by being his steed. She'll live on in his heart, with my Blackie, Candy and Delilah. Hey, I didn't make up the names. They came that way.

When our Son found out he just looked out the window and didn't say a word for maybe 5 minutes. My Wife asked if he was OK and he replied "I don't know if I wanna ride any more. I just don't wanna feel sad about sumptin that will die someday."
I told him "Everything that lives will die someday. Thats way its important to treat people and animals as best you can so you know that as far as your concerned they had the best life. Lollipop ws a great horse and he had a great life." "But why did he have to put down? Just cuz of a bad bone in his leg?" "Horses can't heal like dogs or cats or even people. When they bust a bone in their leg they have to put down or they will spend the rest of their days in agony. That wouldn't be right." "I wish they could heal better..." I am sure their are plenty of T-bred owners that feel the same way.

Mrs Speedy here
We came very close to losing our kid's half Welsh pony due to founder (hoof inflammation) this winter. Caused by horsey diabetes. That was four sleepless nights for us, not to mention $400+ in farrier bills. But when your kid's feelings are involved (and I mean feelings of attachment, not I want the latest toy feelings) the checkbook gets squeezed... My sincerest condolences... and it always seems to happen to the good ones. I hope your son does keep riding and learns how to get re-attached. I've been through a number of horses but bawled like a baby when I learned my 30+ 4-H horse, who I hadn't owned for 16 years, passed on. Good old Macho. Your son will never forget this horse, and I know what he feels like. Poor little guy. this part of horsey love sucks.

I'm feeling for you all. It's tough as they all really become part of the family.
One of our quarter horses passed recently and I'm sure she could use another friend up there. Tell him to "talk" to Lollipop and have him look for a horse named Music. Her full name is Heavenly Music and we miss her greatly. She's an all black quarter horse and by far the best horse we have ever had or have. Lollipop is in good company.
