Yep. It's all about the VINs.
So if you have a stolen 996 you buy this junk, get the VINs suddenly your car is legit.
That car will fetch more than many people expect..

Apart from the scrap value of the steel I can't think of a legitimate reason for this. I'm suprised that it is allowed to be sold in this way and that the VIN doesn't have to be removed/destroyed.

Might be worth a laugh to record that VIN, put it in a safe place, then wait a year or so and CARFAX it again... see where it turns up.
