If it wasn't Shaun, I say someone was laying the groundwork for a "Vin Switch"........

mattdavis11 06-07-2008 08:22 PM

That'll buff out.

Porsche-O-Phile 06-07-2008 08:32 PM

Dibs on the chrome rear window & windshield trim and the chrome vent windows when you finally return to reality and realize that's not going to be a good idea. . .

They made a movie about this car, it was called Mission Impossible.

thank you Bob, I really appreciate that.

trekkor 06-08-2008 05:56 AM

If you really are going to take this on, what's the game plan?

Shaun @ Tru6 06-08-2008 06:13 AM

I recommend reading through the Technical thread, but if I end up doing the welding work on the floors, I'll build a jig (picture a box of horizontal latters using 3" square tubing) onto which I'll bolt the unibody at the torsion bar tube and the steering rack crossmember mounting points. Then fix the front gas tank support, bolt that up, then get to work on the center of the car.

creaturecat 06-08-2008 07:59 AM

please.......tell me this is some form of "social experiment"

89911 06-08-2008 08:13 AM

As the saying goes "Money fixes anything". Just don't go around and try to sell it in the next 100 years or so.

Porsche-O-Phile 06-08-2008 08:15 AM

By the time that car is restored to the point where it can be driven somewhat safely, gas will be $100 a gallon and cars will be illegal.

Shaun @ Tru6 06-08-2008 08:46 AM

What color should I paint my 75 Carrera?

he's not going to get it done by next year...

Mule 06-08-2008 09:15 AM

You can definitely re use the steering wheel and the 911S trim. The rest looks like 1 step down from scrap.

cashflyer 06-08-2008 09:25 AM

Just because you can does not mean you should.

lendaddy 06-08-2008 09:26 AM

As Seinfeld would say; "Good luck with all that."

I think you'd finish quicker whittling one from a block of billet. :D

Or he could just spend the same # of hours it would take working at a 7-eleven + the $$ that would be used and buy the best one in the world. Start driving tomorrow. To the 7-eleven. :)

speeder 06-08-2008 09:42 AM

Being from the rust belt, (one of the many reasons that car nuts move to the mecca of SoCal), I'd rather own a dry '77 924 w/ automatic trans than that soggy turd. And it's a targa, for chrisakes!! Your family is going to commit you.

Mule 06-08-2008 09:43 AM

Doesn't Billy Mays sell something that'll make that look like new?

Nathans_Dad 06-08-2008 11:56 AM

I think the only thing left after media blasting will be the 911S logo...

That guy reminds me of one of the rednecks from the Pulp Fiction "Gimp" scene.

Therefore i find his commercials very unsettling. LOL.

Seahawk 06-08-2008 02:19 PM

I, for one, applaud the effort, but it does make tilting at windmills look sane:)

I'm on your squad, though: "Was it over when the German's bombed Pearl Harbor!"

LOL! the wheels alone on this car are worth more than the nicest 77 auto 924 in the world!:D

We all make our choices in life.

Thanks Paul, sanity has never been a strong point. Everyone here knows that! I think Mr. Hancock really hit the nail on the head on the Technical forum thread.

Put it on a piece of plywood and haul it to the front yard. Line it, Stick a pump in the cab and make it a fountain.
Sure beats the naked mermaid I've got my eyes on.
Some people have all the luck.

austin552 06-08-2008 06:53 PM

ebay is your friend.
