Gun storage

OK, I might be heading into uncharted waters here. I am not making a political statement and am no asking for them, so here goes.

I am a licensed concealed handgun carrier and occasionally must travel in areas where I feel more comfortable having access to my weapon. I am looking for methods people have used to safely store the weapon in the 911 cabin yet maintain fairly quick access if needed.

Any suggestions/product leads will be appreciated.

I work for a certain 3 leter federal agency ( i know that probably very unpopular) and I can tell you that most states do not want you to have the gun and ammo within reach for quick access. Police officers dont want guns within reach for obvious reasons so be careful and keep the gun unloaded

But if you are licensed to carry a loaded, concealed weapon this does not apply.


I keep mine in the small of my back. It's my small, easy to conceal while wearing shorts weapon. My bigger ones are only for winter when I'm wearing heavier clothing.

Look into a State that has reciprocal licensing. Get that out of state license. Most southern States have more liberal requirements....CA sucks.

If in a State that won't honor your license it needs to be in an inaccessible location. Most likely the trunk. If in a truck, a locked box and unloaded, behind the seat.

Take a side holster, and mod it to fit firmly and securely in the front of the door cubby. You'll have to grab it left handed and switch hands if you're right handed...

I'm left handed, and have always mounted a "security measure" under the dash on the left side of the steering wheel. The p-car does not have enough room for such a mount...

You keep it in the small of your back while your driving? Driving through another state is totally different so you need to comply with each state.

A small 9mm is not uncomfortable in the small of the back but it's pretty inaccessible while sitting in a 911. Try it if you don't believe me. How about a holster inside the 911 door pocket?

Recently I was at my upholsters and he was working on a gun holster. All he did was to sew the outside face of the holster onto the front vertical surface of the seat bottom. So all you had to do was to reach down between your legs to gather up your piece.

One of my holsters has an outside strip of Velcro.....get the opposite flavor, attach in an area of choice....hang it. When not using it, the evidence of a holster is missing.

Not exactly a permanent fix > but how about laying on the pax seat with a towel laying over it.? Permits right hand access > totally mobile ..

I have a concealed carry licence. When I get into the 911 and I am not planning on driving hard, I just place mine on the passenger seat. Just be sure to have your permit at the ready for the cop when he walks up.

Ergonomically, a 9mm pistol tucked in the back of your waistband is both uncomfortable and awkward to access, especially with a latched seat belt.

The best place for easy access is where your gun hand naturally rests. If it's your crotch, you'll want it nearby.

Seriously, the area around the handbrake falls most naturally for most people. You could have a holster velcroed to a bracket next to the driver seat. When leaving, remove gun and holster and take it with you. Cover it with a towel or magazine so it doesn't alarm passengers or passersby.

Not sure you'd want to drive your 911 in those areas anyway. Sorta like walking down a dark alley with bills hanging out of your pocket with a sawed-off shot gun under your trench coat.

If you want it accessible while driving, a shoulder holster is really the best method. I carry 100% of the time in my cars, usually in the driver's door pocket. If I have to leave my gun in the car like when I go into the Post Office or whatever, I sometimes leave it in the door pocket, sometimes in the glove box. The BMW has tinted windows, so you can't see the door pocket from outside. Under the seat isn't an option in the 993 due to the DME box. Shaun, those rear seat deletes are crazy expensive and near unobtainium for 993's.

I've been pulled over at least six times while carrying. Never been a problem and I've never been asked to show the sidearm. I wear a sidearm openly when on the bike.
