Copperhead under my carport

Really there is a copperhead snake under my carport. Not the carport itself, but under the concrete.

I need to lure it out so that I can block the hole again. Any suggestions?

Run away screaming? that's probably what I'd do. I don't play well with venomous snakes.

As my dad used to say when we would go walking in the woods. It's important to have a good stick! Stick trumps shotgun. No neighbors will die, just the snake.

My wife is a park ranger, and we live in the park. It is against the law to shoot an animal in the park.

Oh, the comma.

I am afraid that would force the snake to go under the house, and look for another way out.

Go buy a rat at the local pet store, knock it out with a spoon to the forehead and tie a string to its tail. Then toss it down the hole. The snake will get it. Since Copperheads are not constrictors, the snake will probably not get tangled in the string and will naturally swallow it head first. Once you know that's all done, pull the string gently and you'll probably get the snake out before you've pulled the rat out of its stomach. We used to kill Copperheads by cutting their heads off with shovels. They're not very dangerous or aggressive.

Good idea with the rat. Copperheads are aggressive snakes!

I just talked to my wife, she thinks an owl got the snake.

Another trick it to just flood the place. When we used to catch Tarantulas in TX, we used a 2 litre bottle full of water to flood one of their holes while the other guy waited at their other hole for them to come rushing out with the water.

I don't think Copperheads are aggressive. At least the ones we had in TX weren't. We saw them and Cottonmouths all the time and I never got chased or snapped at by them. They were easy kills and I was around 10 yrs. old. I have good shot of a Rattlesnake I took up close and personal a few years ago too. he didn't bother me, but then he wasn't coiled up or agitated either.

Rick, I stand corrected, copperheads are aggressive snakes. My wife and I both have had them strike at us, so I was speaking of personal experience.

Did I mention that I do not like snakes!

Throw a couple moth balls down the hole, it probably won't come back.
