How long do interior walls stay the same color in your house?

I am curious. I am remodeling my master bathroom, it has needed it since we purchased the house 12 years ago.

Since that is finally being done my wife has decided that the master bedroom need to be painted too. I loved it the way it was but now its getting a new color as well.

The living room and kitchen have changed so many times in the past 12 years I have lost track.

I hate painting and I am refusing to partake in the painting of the bedroom.

Does anyone else's wifes suffer from this fresh paint affliction?

Actually I used to refresh my walls with same color or change color once a year.

Having a Mastiff, a few cats and a couple of kids makes it mandatory.

I would kill myself.... seriously. I hate painting I would rather do anything than paint. I hate it and I suck at it because I hate it so much.

It's pretty simple if you are methodical about it.

I break it down in stages.

Move all furniture either out off or put in the center off the room.

Remove all trim/moulding.

Remove wall plates.

Remove doors from hinges and remove all hardware.

Sounds like a lot of work but it really is less work than masking or being too lazy to mask and "trying to be neat".

With all that out of the way the painting part goes real fast and the final product is really rewarding to look at.

No one wants to look at a car and find overspray on the rubber. And once you find it it's all you see.

I use an easier system.

Call Tony.

Give him credit card information.

Tony's 5-man team shows up on Monday.

Painting is done by EOD Wednesday.

All while I sit back and watch with a beer in my hand.

We've repainted several times because she likes to change things around. I also don't paint. If anything gets painted, it's the wife and kids that do the painting. I'll nail, screw, cut, build, tile, grout, etc.... anything except paint.

You aren't alone

1. Move everything into center of room, or out, and remove outlet covers (the hardest part).
2. Put down canvass drop cloths around perimeter.
3. Cut in ceiling.
4. Cut in walls and floor.
5. Roll out ceiling. Use an extension and work from floor.
6. Roll out walls. Use an extension and work from floor.
7. Move everything back in.

DONE.

(oh wait)..........

8. Rearrainge the furniture. Make sure to try out the heaviest pieces from the basement and attic.....just to be sure they couldn't "work" in that corner.
9. That picture doesn't go there. Spackle/prime/paint the hole, and install a new hanger three inches to the left.
10. Did I mention the basement needs rearrainging, right now?
11. Repeat step eight.
12. Repeat step nine.
13. The kitchen floor needs to be re-grouted before this weekend for the party.
14. Repeat step nine.
15. Oops, honey I backed into the garage door and now it doesn't shut.
16. Is the basement done yet?
17. That color doesn't go well with anything. Let's try a lighter shade of blue.

Glad I have company.

I spent the day changing out / updating all the electrical outlets and switches in the bedroom, she painted the trim and is now done with the room.

Now I can get back to the bathroom remodel that is only 1/2 done. I installed the new toilet yesterday and bought all the hardware needed to install the new sinks. I am just waiting for the glass guy to come and measure up the shower and remove the 9'x5' mirror on the wall. He told me I was smart to call him to do it, he usually removes bloody mirrors.

I was glad to do anything besides painting.

Here's the solution, Jim...hire this painter (from the "Random Chicks" thread). Your wife will never put you in charge of painting, or ask you to paint, ever again...

Maybe every six years at our place. My wife does ALL the painting, I just assist a bit.
No big deal for me, I think it's called nesting.

I have done toouch ups on homes that we just finish a month ago and the paint is slghtly different color. This is from the same damn can. It fades pretty fast depending on where and how much sunlight is on it I suppose. We ended up painting the entire wall sometimes. We eat the cost on that one and we have to mask and move furniture just because their goddamn dog decided to have itchy paws.

Oh, I just reread some of this stuff here. If my supreme commander want to change color, she can do it herself. If not it gets repaint every 5-6 years.

I used to paint commercially, and I would be afraid to see what kind of mess my wife would make, so painting is all me.

That being said, most of our house has not been touched since we moved in. The exception is my daughter's bedroom. That has had a few theme/color changes as she has grown.
