Angel Eye Headlights
I know this is more "tech" than "off topic", but I was interested in a general opinion. Anyone retrofit "Angel Eye" headlights? I have a 1989 BMW 635. I don't know how feasible (?possible) such a retrofit would be. Any input appreciated.
Thanks Guys

Never understood the point. Either turn the lights on or turn them off. Simple, easy, saves a $500 conversion.

You've never driven a 1989 BMW at night. A labrador and a white stick is as much use as the original equipment lights.

I have the AE upgrade on my 528 but it was installed with the HID headlamps. It wasn't connected so I did it myself. Not really for seeing better at night, more for looks. The HIDS are sweet for night driving, though. Those and fogs combined make night driving much better.
The angel eyes are the rings arounf the headlamps. It looks pretty evil in this picture, I must say. Kinda creepy. ![]()

What am I missing here? Explain it to me.
Why spend a fortune "upgrading" to halo lights exactly? To me they seem sort of worthless in terms of actual illumination and are really just for looks. For a lot less $$$ you can get an HID kit that actually does something.

My best friend installed these on his VW Corrado SLC. I'm of the opinion that these are serious bling and nothing more; He's happy, I guess that's all that matters:

In most HID kits I have seen from the aftermarket they come with the angel eyes. Newer model 5 series have them as factory and I believe they use them as DRL's.
I agree with POP on the expense, though. If the AE's are the only reason for the purchase, I say don't waste the dough. You WILL see better at night with the HID's. The link I provided in my post has some of the better known manufacturers. I am by no means an expert as I just got into the BMW game but there are those that frequent the Internet that are. BTW-My car came with them in the purchase so I didn't spend anything for them.

That's exactly the point. You're always so grumpy for a guy that lives in California with nice weather.

Well it's his money. . .
I personally don't see the logic of spending that much $$$ on something that could be better spent on something that would actually improve visibility/safety, but to each their own. . . I just wasn't sure if I was missing something. If you want to spend the $$$ on the "bling" factor, knock yourself out.

I have read there are some angel kits that are of terrible quality. Skip the ebay crap and buy from a place that you can actually see them and flame if there is moisture or if the lens split, fade, etc..
Last thing you want is a headlight that fails when you need it most

Check on the 911 technical board for H4 headlights. I'm upgrading from the seal beam replacements as we speak. ![]()
