CZ 457 22lr
Just picked it up. I’m not a rifle guy but I do enjoy plinking. Hoping this proves to be a winner. The safety and trigger both feel much nicer than my very old Glenfield 22lr bolt gun. As expected I guess. The glass looks awesome for how cheap it was.
Any tips on breaking in a brand new rimfire, cleaning, lubricating and the like are most welcome. I love and know shotguns but rifles are a different animal I think. ![]()

No break in required. Rimfires require no cleaning with modern ammunition. Any light gun oil will do for keeping the action and trigger lubed. I've actually found Mobil 1 in 5w-20 to be a fantastic gun oil - it never dries out and gets gummy.

When I got my 455V in 22lr shots 3-8 gave me a single .22 hole group at 25 yards. Good ammo, big honkin scope, rest, etc.

10,000 people can't all be wrong. A huge following on Rimfirecentral. Plus they can tell you what ammo it likes best.
Cool rifle, a real rifle, all steel etc. Česká zbrojovka. |

Any time you want to shoot outside in Southern Maryland, bring it down!
What do you apply it with - cloth, etc? I had not heard of using Mobile 1 before so I am going to give it a try.

i pushed hard for a CZ 455. the American. or MMERICAN.
had to dial it back to Savage budget to get approval from the acquisitions department. truthfully, i am stoked. it's like being a kid again. plinking at targets. i won a beer bet with a bunch of local yokels. we were shooting at a public range. (hyjack - this public range looked like a landfill. i have never seen that much crap in the forest. i picked up my spent targets and looked like a martian.) i hiked thru the crap and found a bunch of clay pigeons on a hill. one guy, said..best shooter wins a cold beer! he brought the beer, so in my eyes he was already the winner. i ranged it 125 yards. i had a camp chair and my camera tripod shooting stick. lets just say the .22 is my favorite caliber to shoot of all time. well done!

That's too dam nice of a spoon for you.
CZ puts a lot of quality in for the $$$.* I think you could compare it in quality to the German made Anschutz which is 3X the price... Your other choices in this quality/price category would be the Browning/Winchester Japanese made 52 or the Kimber 82 American made which is out of production. * I think being an Eastern European nation that was formerly in the Eastern Bloc the wage structure is cheaper than in the west. Yet the craftsmanship culture is old world European.

I really like the idea of buying a whole quart for less than what I would pay for a couple of ounces of "gun oil". I've been using it for years, and have some guns that I oiled with Mobil 1 over a decade ago that still have all of their internal parts moving freely. It seems like any other dedicated "gun oil" seems to dry out and get gummy after a few years. I've had single actions that sit too much reach a point where the trigger wouldn't snap into the hammer notch when trying to cock it, muzzle loaders where the sear wouldn't move freely enough to catch the hammer, bolt guns that would not cock and catch because the trigger/sear were gummed up, and that kind of thing. Since I switched to Mobil 1 I have never had these issues.

Managed to get out for an hour or so today. After maybe 50 shots here is what I was able to do.
5 shot upper left (one low) 50yds ![]() 5 shot 100yds. ![]() These were using federal automatch bulk ammo. Trigger a bit too heavy but I think I’m gonna just shoot it for a while before adjusting the pull weight.

as I am not a rifle guy you are probably right about that! The walnut goes a long way towards making it feel like a decent firearm.

Did you buy your rifle on-line? How did you decide which scope to get? I’ve never bought a gun, but that rifle has me thinking! Thanks,
