They're also havens for American obesity...when you don't even have to burn 5 calories standing in line for your 900 calorie burgers, you gain even MORE weight!

Of course, it's very possible that anyone who wants to KEEP drive-thrus everywhere might very well be one of those morbidly obese Americans...but, hey, who am I to call someone that...especially not, maybe, a thread starter or anything.

Nope. Plenty of healthy, in-shape folks just don't care much for more gov't. regulation of business or telling people how to live their lives. Call me crazy.

Yeah, they should ban smoking, trans fats, and foie gras before drive-thrus.....oh wait...

Just because you don't like something (and I'm not a fan of drive-thrus either) isn't grounds for making a law against it.

Methinks given Al Gore's physique, he has visited a few drive-thrus in his time...

See, I'm more for small to zero government than almost anyone here...however, I also know that it's absurdism to sit and whine about some city planning commissioner that made some offhand comment about getting rid of drive-thus, because they might interfere with the flow of traffic in the new city center.

I mean...really, is this something that deserved more than about 30 seconds of ANY of our time?

Is 99.99% of what's posted here worth more than the time it takes to read the first post of the thread? :)

We live in a country where a great deal of emphasis and reverence is placed on our "God given rights!" and cultural institutions, the violation of either being met with good old American stubbornness to admit to the fact that perhaps the time has passed when we should sit for 20 min. pumping exhaust into the atmosphere, for example, rather than parking the car and walking one's, probably fat, ass into the restaurant.

Of course I realize that I've just expressed a liberal/commie/socialist point of view ;).

My favorite whine here is "You're a limp-wristed, un-American, yoga practicing, manbag carrying, homo liberal, commie socialist pig and we want you to go awaaaaay!"

You don't have to go away. Just quit trying to act smart!

Oh, pshaw, I know I don't! Acting smart? Gee, I wouldn't accuse you of "acting" stupid!

That's a rather tame response by your standards, Mule. Have you for some reason been feeling a bit affronted today? :)

svandamme 06-25-2008 12:25 PM

Where'd that come from? They are worried about manbearpig, not traffic.

I mean...really, is this something that deserved more than about 30 seconds of ANY of our time?

What's one more overbearing, stupid law for manbearpig's sake, among friends, right?

Pazuzu 06-25-2008 12:56 PM

I have yet to see where there was any "overbearing government control" involved in the article that you posted. Could you please find it for me?

Was it somewhere between the fact that this man was VOTED in by the citizens to be the planning commissioner, to make their decisions for them in matters of planning, and the fact that this man simple mentioned this as an idea?

I guess I missed the part that you're harping about where this was a LAW that was engraved in the very leather that bounds the Madison Statutes, and that the citizens were violently put down in their civil uprising against this Monstrous Planning Commissioner?

Mule, I'm way left of you, and I pay no mind to Al. In fact, the only time I Think about him is when you post about him.

Bad press is still free publicity. Are you on his mailing list or something ?

Yes, BUT, he did invent the internet you see...
