I've had enough of the weather

It sure has been a crazy year for weather here in Omaha. About a month ago a tornado/wind storm came through (you might recall the scout camp that got hit in Iowa, where four kids died). That storm knocked a large branch out of my neighbor's rotted tree onto a section of my vinyl fence. Since only one piece ended up broken, I paid for the replacement out of pocket, since my State Farm deductible is $2K.

Well, Friday afternoon, we got what amounted to a hurricane. We had winds of above 100 mph, hail, and torrential rain. It only lasted for about 10 minutes, but my area in midtown Omaha got hit the worst. The rest of the neighbor's tree fell across my whole backyard and knocked out another two sections of fence on the opposite side. It only glanced the garage - damaged a bit of the vinyl and took off one of the gutters, but if it would have fallen about 10 feet further to the south, my garage and cars (including the Boxster) would have been gone.

The hail and winds took off quite a bit of paint on the west side of the house, and the tree knocked out my power. My father and uncles were good enough to help me clean everything up over the weekend - I've got a brush pile 15' high and about 30' feet long. My area, an older part of town, got hit bad - lots of trees that were just pushed over, roots and all. Looks like someone dropped a bomb.

It hasn't gotten much national coverage, but it was bad. Lots of people still without power. It was the worst storm I've seen, and that's saying a lot in Omaha.

Just venting a little, as I'll probably have to pay for all the repairs out of pocket. Just been a long year already, and it's only July!

Just remember, it's all part of a natural cycle.

Yup. It's in your head. There is no climate change.
