What to do for my lovely wife who is turning 40 next week?

Need some suggestions, she says that she does not want a big party and does not seem to keen that she is hitting 40 (I am 38 which does not help). Small party? Intimate dinner? Thoughtful gift? I am at a loss.

My wife just turned 40, we were gonna have a BIG party - roast a pig, etc. However, things kept getting in the way, like an unexpected $1k car repair bill, etc.

We're putting it off until around New Years when I'll be off from work for a few weeks before hand...

Since you are in Seattle, how about a romantic weekend at a hotel in Vancouver, BC or similar?

be careful, your in a minefield.
Women seem to view 40 , like some men view 50..it's downhill from here & over.
No party..respect her wish.
info can be gotten from her GFriend's.
celebrate her 39th,

Rika

I took my wife to our favorite Inn in the country for the weekend when she turned 40. She really appreciated it.

For our 21 anniversary this June we went all out at the concession stand at our 8 year old daughter's softball game!

I was going to suggest posting her pic on the MILF thread for her 40th (assuming you have kids), but that would be totally tastless and lacking class . Having said that:

POST HER PIC ON THE MILF THREAD !!!

Just kidding of course...

My first thought was "turning 40 next week and you're still in the ideas stage? You're a dead man!" But if low key is what she wants, you're ok!

Nothing to offer, because in our family it's big things for the major birthdays (we went to France for my 30th) but my wife's 30th is coming up in the fall, so I'm well into the planning stage, and am interested to hear the suggestions put out in here!

Buy here something nice (not a riding lawnmower) and respect her wishes not to have a big party.

I would guess if you throughly planned a nice evening for the two of you she would appreciate this the most - even an overnight trip to a cool place.

FWIW.

Go to a hotel for the weekend. Buy her a day in the spa. You get most of the day to hang out. When its time for her hour massage surprise her by joining her for a couples massage. Dinner follows and jewelry never sucks.

My thoughts exactly! Tell her you love her and show her her photo on the MILF thread! (then run!)

I like experiential gifts. Here's what I got my wife for her 40th...

They're in a Grob aerobatic glider.

You're in Seattle?

Get a seaplane to Victoria for the weekend. Book a nice hotel and couple of nice restaurants (let me know if you need tips.) Bring along a small blue box from Tiffany.

Bob's your uncle.

Your a very lucky man.

Like your wife I don't really like people making a fuss over my birthday and I especially don't like celebrating the "big" three oh, four oh, etc. (what a load of BS!)

That is why I usually plan a trip around my birthday,

So put me down as another vote for the two of you get of town for a few days.
