I was thinking about something (Don't ask me when, you don't want to know), and I thought I'd throw it out there, since you guys are soooooooo smart.
![]() In the ebb and flow each hour, or day, or month (whatever), can you name moments when your brain is AT ITS BEST? That single speck of the day when you could conquer the world with your thoughts? (If you're awesome and really smart all the time, don't bother to answer; we won't 'get it' anyway. ![]() When you just wake up, for example. Or right before bed. Right after a great meal? In the middle of the night, when you wake up from a dream, and write something on the notepad you have on your nightstand (you genius, you!) Or, a time in your whole life, maybe, when the skies opened up on your cloudy brain and you saw everything clearly for the first (or fiftieth) time. Perhaps someone would say "when my baby was born" or something like that. ENLIGHTEN ME. I'll go first. Sorry if you think it's crude or rude, but I think It's quite possible that a man's most clear, rational thoughts occur in the few minutes immediately after coitus. Have fun! PLEASE, PLEASE, don't try to turn this into a politics slap fight or I'll fcking lose it. Keep it in the 7,403 other political threads and be nice.

Wow, I was talking with a friend about this just the other day.
My brain is at its best after a hard day of work (both physical and mental), I'm tired but I'm doing something active like walking, driving or riding the motorcycle. A wonderful calm comes over me and I can feel my brain working much more slowly, deliberately, thoughtfully, clearly. It's a wonderful feeling. it is also at its best just driving, anytime.

When I get up in the morning and go for a run. Brain is almost done processing last night's thoughts and hasn't been ruined by the current day's problems. as much as I hate to admit it sometimes, I'm more of a morning person these days.
Anytime I'm near the computer is generally not good. After coitus? I'm thinking shower or sleep. Maybe its the time of day.

first thing in the morning is usually a great feeling.
in the middle of a good workout. in the middle of sex, when she is incredible and is riding on top of you and you are laughing out loud 'isnt this great!" also as a musician when you hit that one chord or sequence of notes or sing something really well and you are just hit with that bolt of lightening creative vibe that you try to hang on to as long as you can. surfers have that high when surfing, some runners too... i think winning at anything competitive comes with that incredible high good conversation with a bunch of friends over dinner and wine is a big high. seeing a good movie doing anything creative with a bunch of people |

Your brain is the most active when you are sleeping, processing everything that happened the day before.
Do you take Ginko? I have found that taking it really helps and wake up "ready to go" most mornings. Also when something is on my mind I often wake up with the solution. One thing that baffles me is that when I have to get up early for something important, about 80% of the time I wake up 5-10 minutes before the alarm, no matter what time it is nor how early. The mind works in interesting ways...

IMO, the moment you actually pick up on the chick is possibly the moment your thinking is the LEAST clear. TOO narrow. Fixed on an all-too-specific, primal, low-order goal. Tunnel-vision. The two minutes right after? Absolute, pristine clarity, unencumbered by the search for POONANNY.

The minutes after I finish a nice bowl of organic Oregon Kush can be reasonably though provoking......
![]() On a more serious note, I find that Buddhism has led to some rather clear moments. No a lot of conscious 'thinking', but pieces falling into place given the chance with a racing frantic mind absent.

Oddly enough, it's when I am hung over. Not the head pounding stage, but a little after that.
Since I have had kids, this hasn't really happened, but I remember it pretty well.

For me it depends upon the nature if the 'problem' or subject at hand.
If it is a technical matter, I find my best moments of clarity come if I am engaged in a low-thought repetative activity: mowing the lawn or weed-wacking a half-mile of electric fence. I am surprised at the number of times I have gone to bed thinking about an odd topic of conversation, then gotten up at 2 AM to let the dog out and have jotted down a poem or song in 15 minutes. I have to write it down just to 'get it out of the queue' so it isn't dominating my thoughts for the rest of the night. If it 'hangs together' in the cold light of day it's a bonus. Usually I find if there is a lot of other 'stuff' going on, I am just going with the flow. I will think about it later. (I am definitely not the master of the witty come-back.) Les

I've found the "light bulb illuminates" when I'm taking a morning shower. If I have a complex problem (say at work), I don't consciously "think" about it, but invariably (over the years), it just hit's me then...or when I'm driving.

5 - 7 am. The house is still quiet, no one is emailing me or calling me so I actually get time to think.
