recording rights??
I recently recorded an old Elmore James song and some radio guys here are asking to play it on the air. However I do not have the rights nor the permission to the song. Anybody here know how to go about securing those?

You recorded your performance of the song? If that's the case, you just need a mechanical license. It's cheap. Contact the Harry Fox Agency. www.harryfoxagency.com

Of course, you could always play it live on air... no license needed then.

But if I record it, can they play it?

Yes. They have a public performance license that covers anything on their air.

How old is the song? Old enough to be "public domain?"
Any chance that is is a blues "standard" and actually much older than his recording? If so, it's probably public domain. What song was it?

I don't believe it was public domain. I looked on the PD site and did a search and came up with nothing.
The song is "Whose Muddy Shoes"

Done. I used to have to clear samples. What really gets fun is when an artist hands you a song, and they have no clue who the samples are from.
