As others have said and explained, there is the issue of weather and adequate warmth in a lot of places...but I don't think that is the issue that livi wanted to address.

If all humans lived in a place where the weather was perfect all day everyday, majority of the civilized world (excluding tribes, etc.) would still wear clothes. I think this comes back to the issue that lives of civilized humans are now based on wants, not needs.

For instance, a deer thinks the following:
I need food
I need water
I need to reproduce with the strongest male I can find so my offspring will also be strong, and survive the winter

An american might think the following:
I want some smoked ribs this weekend
I think I might grab a pelligrino
I may want kids someday, but that chick with no ovaries is smokin hot!

You can extrude the 'want' attitude in a number of different ways to explain clothing:
I want to wear those cavaricci's because they are expensive and everybody knows it
I don't want to go nude because I have a huge a$$
I don't want men to gawk at my perfect body
My left booby is bigger than my right, I want to stuff my bra to make them look perfect.
Or, quite simply, I want to wear clothes because everybody else does...

This is, of course, a gross generalization...talk amongst yourselves :p

TMI Moses, but so long as your nips are covered, you're good :)!

Funny moment from college: A friend of mine in Computer Science turns in his project, junior year, with a C function:

void ImWritingThisFunctionNaked( int arg );

Repost of an old post of mine - could be related to this thread's topic?

one interesting thoughts by a "Burton MacKenZie" on our fascination with breast. Might not want to click if at work, just to be on the safe side. Nothing vulgar on the site which can bee seen on the opening page as far as I can tell.

Nudity. Why is it not accepted in humans?

We have a large and crowded nudist beach in this town. Come for a visit - and then you will have your answer.

speeder 07-10-2008 10:00 AM

What town is that? (Just curious).

A few thoughts:

1) sunburn & frostbite

2) strip clubs and Playboy would go bankrupt

3) Genesis 3:7 - "And the eyes of them both were opened, and they knew that they were naked; and they sewed fig leaves together, and made themselves aprons."

livi 07-10-2008 10:39 AM

Its been touched on before, but how about the simple fact that those areas are sensitive parts of our body. I am talking historic reasons here, not contemporary, in which case I believe religion has a strong impact.

I am back to reproduction and therefore partly sexuality. The stone age folks learned that it was prudent to cover those body parts as, if they got hurt or cold, they may very well impair reproduction and hence survival. I wonder if it actually is inherited genetically by the Evolution. Those who tended to cover their sensitive parts tended to have more children, who in their turn...etc...etc..

Of course, a more contemporary reflexion is that, otherwise we would not have the luxury of camel toe.. :D

I have no desire to see fat, disgusting pigs wandering the streets naked.

Ever.

URY914 07-10-2008 10:50 AM

My buddy that attends a nude resort regularly says all it takes is a hot 20 something to walk around the pool area and it makes up for all the fat ugly ones.

Your buddy is mistaken.

There is no amount of hotness that can restore your eyesight after your corneas have been burned out seeing some fat, disgusting 300lb cottage cheese laden ugly chick.

Ugh, the horror. THE HORROR!

Vancouver.

Not the best picture. It's actually a nice beach. But all the dangly bits rather spoil it IMHO.

naked is not always sexy
sexy is not always naked
Seinfeld covered that in one of his shows.
