Oh the people you meet on planes...

It turned out to be an interesting trip – on my flight back to Tejas; I sat next to a pretty attractive women who turned out to be more than just a pretty face.

The conversation went like this:

Me: Nothing like leaving wonderful Detroit! I hope you don’t live here, if so no offense.

Her: No, no offense. I agree, Detroit isn’t one of my favorite places. I’m from LA actually.

Me: So you’re heading to Dallas on biz or pleasure or both?

Her: Strictly business. I’m speaking at a conference then flying out the same day.

Me: Cool, I do that from time-to-time as well. I’m Mike Holloway (I offered to shake her hand, she complied).

Her: (she smiled) My name is Elizabeth Rogers, pleased to meet you.

Me: Same here, what is your talk on?

Her: Well, it’s about being environmental responsible around your home.

Me: So it’s a green message basically.

Her: Yup. That’s what I have been working on for some time now.

Me: Wait a minute; are you the Elizabeth Rogers who co-authored The Green Book?

Her: Ya, that’s me. You’ve heard of it?

Me: Heard of it, I have sited some of your work in my book.

Her: Really? What book have you written?

Me: Nothing like yours, mine is more of a reference book for industry on how to develop purchasing specifications. Your work is sited as an example of thinking green and changing habits that not only make sense but can save money as well. Let me show. (pulled up chap 7 with her ref'd about 4 times).

She asked me questions about how I felt about alternative fuels to wit I told her that it was a fool’s errand predicated around politics instead of logic or accurate economic engineering principles. We discussed that at length. She seemed very interested, yet almost like deer in the head lights. She is a true, dyed-in-the-wool liberal and I am not. I respect her work and her success so I was cordial.

She asked me if I used fluorescent bulbs in my home and did I recycle? I told her that I only used those bulbs in my foundation floods and on my workbench. And only because they last longer – not for green reasons. We then had a discussion on the cost of materials, product and disposal of said lamps and compared that to traditional incandescent. Needless to say, you can’t argue with a guy that actually has been in both manufacturing plants and understands the overall cost layout for each. I told her that I do recycle.

I think I made her think just a little or maybe not. I told her that if she would like, I would be happy to send her a copy of my work. She accepted my offer and countered. I told her I already had a copy in my library but I would like to reserve a future copy of any future work she my do. She accepted.

The Green Book has been on the New York Times best seller list. I can't really comment if the book as any good or not because I think that anyone who publishes anything deserves respect.

I was on a trip back from California earlier this year and was sitting next to an attractive Latin woman in her mid 40's. We started talking a little and she said that she was headed to North Carolina to see her daughter who just had a baby. Her husband is a Marine in EOD. She asked me what I did for a living and I told here I am a computer technician for the Marine Corps, deploy with them just got back from Iraq etc....

She said that her son in laws brother is currently in Iraq at the moment. We started talking and it turn out he is a good friend of mine who I just spent 6 months working next to. They are a very close family and she knows all about him. I now start thinking this is a great time to play a joke on my buddy. So we land and I ask here if it we could take a picture together so I can send it to my buddy in Iraq, kinda like it’s a small world. My girlfriend who was there to pick me up took the pictures and we all said good bye.

The next day I send my buddy this email about how I hooked up with this MILF I met at the airport. Told him she was the best POA I ever had that she was dirty as hell in the sack. I attached the picture of her and I at the end of the email with the tag line "Greetings from North Carolina, see ya soon." He got a good laugh out of that one.
