That has yet to be proven. While it initially appeared clear-cut, there is more and more doubt about the events.

I have no problem with giving him a military trial, but get it done.

Detaining anyone for that period of time without a trial or due process is nothing to be proud of.

He's just taunting. My guess is the Mule thinks he should be executed prior to a trial.

The best outcome for everyone, probably including the kid, would have been for the medics to let him die.

For those of you who don't know the background, this kid came from messed up family that lived in Canada while working as terrorists. The kid had no chance.

Now it's down to technicalities, is he a 'child soldier', just a 'soldier', an 'enemy combatant' , and is there enough evidence to convict him of murder?

It's touchy. Half the people I talk with bemoan the fact that he was 15 years old, brainwashed by his family, was a "child soldier" etc

On the other hand, the whole Khadre family is so outspokenly loathsome that I can't sympathize at all. Some of the family members have publicly praised the 9/11 hijackers. I assume this has influenced the Canadian government's inaction.

FWIW, it's not clear-cut that Omar threw that grenade. At least one soldier stated that it was someone else.

My gut says that even if he is a loathsome murderer terrorist, he was a child soldier when it occurred. After years in detention though, hard to imagine any rehabilitation (like in Sierra Leone, Rwanda etc) could be beneficial

EDIT: One thing that comes to mind every single time this pops up in the media (which is a lot): Here's the single survivor of the raid where soldiers were injured and killed (a medic, no less) and yet they saved this kid's life. I know a lot of people think he should have been killed, or at least left to die, but the fact that they treated him speaks to the professionalism of the soldiers on the ground. Can't imagine that would have been easy. I don't think that's pointed out nearly enough.

No reasonable person can side with this 'family'. But citizens have rights, and our government can't pick and choose who they defend. They are obligated to defend Omar Khadre. Just like they defend killers on death row in the U.S.A.

The alternative is to revoke citizenship, which, if done legally, would be fine by me.

problem is Mule probably wasn't planting land mines when he was 14-15. Not that I'm defending Mule's position... it's just a really messy, complicated scenario. I don't think there are any easy answers WRT child soldiers.

The government is slowly releasing them, most if not all without charges.
1/3 were released in 2006 and now 1/2 have been released.

A lot of them were rounded up because neighbors who had a grudge against them, turned them in. Whoops.

All those years of torture and imprisonment, just to be released. Christian over-zealousness at it's best......Crazy.

In 60 years the republican party, in the middle east, is going to have tons of potential candidates.
Better order more seats for the straightjacket express.
