Gore's Goal - modified
Al Gore set a goal for the US to derive all its electricity from solar, wind & wave energy within 10 years (not as some have thought, to derive all its _energy_ from those sources - the latter would include vehicle fuels; the former does not).
That seems hard to do. But suppose we set the goal of cutting electrical use substanially and then deriving that lower amount from alt. sources? That would be a LOT easier, if only we could make large cuts in elec. usage. It now appears that we can cut our use of electricity for lighting by say 80% - and do so easily within 10 years. The article below says LED based and cheap lighting avialable in a couple of years. http://blogs.zdnet.com/emergingtech/?p=985 |

For every little bit you can reduce your carbon footprint, there's a commie doubling the size of his!
|
anybody will buy a cheaper light bulb - if they can make the LEDs cheaply you could save a huge amount on your elec. bill

Just how long have you been living like this my friend? |

your link says: "It would also help to cut our electricity bill by about 10%, " |
might be 10% for someone with A/c in summer and elec. heat in winter.
w/o those, the elec. bill should decline by somewhere between 50% and 85% |
there are two ways gore could do this.
either, pull some brilliant miracle technology out of his ass. or, reduce the size of the american economy to a fraction of it's current self |
You guys need to read the other Gore thread. See my posts here

But Red, all those facts are confusing. If you just suspend belief and listen to Al he makes you feel so good.

Facts have a funny way of killing most of these threads...

Amazing aint it? It's a shame somebody with a hand full of live brain cells cant get a hold of Algore on live tv!

That's good personal policy. |

Do you recommend not changing your carbon footprint because someone else will negate it or not??? If so, why do you believe that??? If not, why would you say that then??? Are you afraid of LED lighting? Did it touch you wrong when you were a child? Does it haunt your dreams? |

Paz, do you worry about water vapor that you produce? (water vapor is a much bigger player in the greenhouse gas game.) ...breathing adds to both the water cycle And the carbon cycle. -are you worried?

Are you once again answering Mule's random thoughts, since he's incapable of doing it himself?
Want my take on it? It's pretty darned simple, even you can get it. Why create an excess of anything around me if there are options that create less waste. Would I switch to LED lights when they come out? sure, who wouldn't? Cheaper, cooler, less electricity used, less electricity wasted. You'd be an idiot to not switch, and you'd be a Mule sized idiot if you didn't switch because someone else would negate what you did. So, since he won't answer the simple question, and you are trying to, be clearer...Does Mule think that making a smaller environmental impact is useless because someone else will just negate it, or was he just saying crap again? And why would you bother bringing up carbon cycles and water vapor to me? Why wouldn't you bring them up to Mule, since HE'S the one that brought up the carbon footprint. Oh, that's right, you'd NEVER turn to him and say that he's saying something stupid or wrong... |
