Falcon 10 take off distance

We had a jet jockey bring a Falcon 10 into our local airport in the Adirondacks this past Friday, departed Saturday morning. I'm curious, the strip is paved 3104' x 60' and when he departed he damn near cut the grass at the end of the runway. Anyone with experience in a Falcon 10, what are your thoughts on the safety aspect of that aircraft coming in and out of this length strip. Interesting thing is that there was a triathlon finishing up just as he departed and had he lost power for some reason the aftermath could have been disastrous to many folks on the ground as the departure end of the runway goes over a road which was heavily traveled during the departure.

Seemed pretty stupid to me but I'll be interested in comments.

You'd need all the applicable information - aircraft weight, temperature, etc. And the performance charts for that aircraft.

If the performance charts say you can do it, it's legal. It was most likely done under Part 91 (not a revenue operation - requirements for those are far more restrictive).

Not really enough info. to tell you whether it was illegal or not. My guess is it was. Usually commercial pilots don't like taking unnecessary risks.

This is what it looked like over the departure end of the runway! Unfortunately, I don't have the other info.

Pop is right, not enough info.

However, gear already up, still low, nice turn to departure heading...looks like flat hatting to me.

I, of course, would never, ever engaged in such activity

When I was working, our corp aircraft was a Falcon 10 and on the trips in and out DXR at 4400', the pilots were never very pleased about the accommodations. No harm no foul. I had heard through the grapevine that the pilot had borrowed the plane for the trip. He had seven miles of lake in front of him if he had to ditch, not a pleasant thought but better than hills and forest in the opposite direction.

In the Maule by that point on departure, I have at least 500'+ between me and mother earth.

Most Falcons have a excellent wing with leading edge slats, which really lower the runway needed.

That said, the Challenger 604 that I fly many times has a take off distance less than 3000 feet and an actual landing distance of 2600 or so. Thats very lightly loaded but we have a "hard wing" with no leading edge devices.

You would really need to know the rest of the data to be sure...

With leading edge slats and at light weight, would not have been a problem. V1 would have been very early (had he had to abort and stop), always worst case scenario. Single engine from that V1 point on is almost a non-event. Second stage climb to clear terrain single engine would have been next worst case, but doesn't sound like it from your description.

A Maule could have taken off in the length of a hangar (have you seen that video)?

Lightweight in the Gulfstream 2, 1800 feet of sea-level runway was not impossible, in or out.

Thanks for the info guys.

Before I bought the Maule, I visited Moultrie and met B.D. Maule among others at the plant. He's one of the reasons I got the aircraft, super design combining form and function. If he only spent some money on the paint jobs. Since he's passed, the paint jobs are 200% improvement. Still a super airplane.

If I'm right...still in production...? Quit a nice tribute to that superb concept.
