Ban them all! I used to enjoy Pelican, now it's getting to personal insults and bickering. I propose a rule, if you type something that a reasonable person wouldn't say to someone's face, ban them I've said a few rude words here, and I've apologized to those people. IF I were a moderator, and I'm glad I'm not, I'd wack a whole bunch of people. I've met a bunch of Pelicans around the world, and never met one I didn't like in person. There are a zillion websites that you can go to and hurl insults and profanity. Go somewhere else.

Think about this.... If the best that you can do is attack the poster on some issue, rather than submit a reasoned and well thought out response, you're not that deep a thinker, are you?

Agreed 100%. If I were a mod around here, Ban Island would be pretty crowded. These guys give a lot of slack here, and they just get more whining for it. I particularly enjoy the "you ban more conservatives" whine, especially this last round.

Hey Art - I just enjoyed the irony, I am no mod...carry on mate...

trekkor 07-24-2008 10:48 PM

Yes, there would be a whole sub-forum on Ban Island. :D

You guys could cuss each other out and and insult yourselves silly.

If you get banned from Ban Island, where do you go?

If we see what Mule did or said then we might not do the same thing. Or are we supposed to just learn by being banned?

The libs have been trying to get him banned for a month now and looks like it finally worked!

Guess we are reverting back to the 1930's when we are not supposed to ever question anyone's actions....

Mule was banned for being a conservative???:rolleyes::rolleyes:

What a hilarious thought, the work of underground liberals:rolleyes:

The guy acts like a tool most of the time. Posts relatively nothing unless it's a combative one-liner, cartoon post or a cut and paste opinion. When called on the carpet he either hides or gives a grade school comeback. I've never seen a bigger waste of keyboard strokes since Snowman.

I'm going to enjoy the crack free environment for a couple of weeks.

I suggest you re-read my first post in this thread, especially the "What's an inappropriate word? This is NOT kindergarten. You know what they are. If you don't, and want to push your luck, feel free to see what it will get you." part.

Quote:

A couple of points:
First of all, I certainly hope you are not accusing me of being a lib. If you are, then you are gravely mistaken. Fact is, I am probably one of the most conservative people on this board. If you don't know that, perhaps you should search the archives for some of my posts -- you will see a lot of evidence of this (if you can weed through all that moderation stuff that apparently has been the subject of my posting of late...)

Second, this has absolutely NOTHING to do with any political stance that any member of PPOT has. Lemme say that again, This had absolutely NOTHING WHATSOEVER to do with POLITICS! It has to do with Mule breaking a very simple and straight forward rule that was put in place, enforced, and deliberately disregarded. One more time, politics, or any stance on liberal vs. conservative had nothing to do with this. He got around the language filters in a "creative" manner, which landed him in the penalty box for two weeks.

Third: Why, oh why must you (and others) bring politics into every thing that is posted here? It is seriously getting rather tiresome. Don't you have anything better to do than that?

Just like you seem to be reverting back to when you were in grade school, and had to have everything spelled out for you...

Good night,

Then maybe you should smuggle yourself out of Germany and to the safety of some other less oppressive bbs.

That really is quite an insulting comment. Mule was banned afaik because he used abusive language following right on the heels of Z-man's thread warning to cool it. And for the record I had nothing to do with it - Z saw the post the took action. Of course Z's part of the "liberal mod conspiracy"

You guys should know how to behave at above-kindergarten level. I figure that a few of you just enjoy pushing the envelope over and over again. But maybe some really don't understand.

- don't use "creative" curse words - the filters are there for a reason

- don't modify another user's name into a creative curse word and use it as a personal attack

- avoid language that most sane people would find offensive. This includes racial epithets and slurs. Not everyone on this board is a white male, and this isn't the 1930's.

dtw 07-25-2008 07:28 PM

So the first two guys to go were both lib wackos, now the conservative mod bans Mule - in a thread where no libs were egging him on, but there's a conspiracy to ban 'conservatives'?

Joe, you've been breathing too much jet fuel. Get some fresh air, captain.

Dammed if you do, and dammed if you do not. Guess we are now not supposed to question anything a moderator does. Nothing like having a God complex and getting pissed off at someone, anyone questioning anything.

Funny thing is that the private emails I have been getting suggest that I am far from being alone, but they are afraid of you guys.

Will make it easy for you guys. Goodby...

The reason I posted the boy, throwing a tantrum is because that is what you are doing.

I received a couple of warnings from z-man the other day and upon receipt I responded and apologized. I told him I would watch my language from now on.

You receive a warning and start complaining about unfairness and start ratting out people who you think should be banned or scolded too. Who are you?
Grow up. If you think you can dish it out, you better be able to take it.
I am sure language is going to be a little more civil now, but if you want to play with mean people you had better toughen up.

Beygon, your no better. Whining like a baby.
And Mule, What the heck is a report button? You guys are unbelievable.

I do enjoy sparring with you guys though.;)
It should be fun to see who breaks the new discipline first.

Looks like its Mule by a nose.

If there is anything that Todd or I have done that is inappropriate, don't you think Wayne would have stepped in and taken action against us? Do you honestly think we are the Pelican gestapo? Is it really that wrong for us to try to enforce the rules of the board and request that everyone treat each other with respect? You, sir, are illogical.

Joe, you are making mountains out of molehills. Calm down -- geez... It's about not using bad words. There, I spelled it out for you.

As far as folks being afraid of us?!?! Given the crap that many of the folks here get away with, I highly doubt there are such emails... and if they truly are fearful of us 'mean ol mods,' then it is based on something fictional.

-Z-man.

nostatic 07-25-2008 09:18 PM

I dunno....I'm pretty afraid of myself. I write myself emails complaining about me all the time. It gives me something to do in my spare time.

Try fly fishing

island_dude 07-25-2008 09:24 PM

I don't get this. From what I can see the mods on this board let an awful lot of rude behavior go on. The political stuff creeps into everything and it gets personal a lot. I had to take an occasional vacation from OT just to get my perspective back. With the election season just getting started and all of the crap flying about I should just not come here for a few months. Seriously, can't we all just get a life?

trap 07-25-2008 09:27 PM

This is easily the one of the most heavily armed boards that I regularly visit. It's also the most whacked by far but that's a different story. Given the former, however, and the fact that it is largely made up of professionals (by and large, we do drive Porsches and BMWs - not your typical toothless crowd) I have a difficult time believing there are a bunch of emails flying discussing a high level of fear over what seems to be a fairly loose level of moderation.

Nostatics use of his spare time, however, is a little bit scary, I'll give you that. In fact, I'll probably email myself about it later.

gprsh924 07-25-2008 09:27 PM

This used to be my favorite board because it seemed more reserved and mature then the typical car board, but I am finding myself clicking on the link less and less and reading less and less when I do stop by. This thread illustrates why perfectly.

nostatic 07-25-2008 09:28 PM

I just spent the last few days fishing - not my thing. My son asked about fly fishing (he liked the flies at the store) but I've never done it. I don't think have the patience for it (neither does the boy).

my hint for the day: bcc yourself when you do. That way you have multiple copies but you don't know that the sender did it.

Man this thing sure took off!

OK so we cant use colorful spellings to get around the language filter – no problem – rules are rules.

It appears that its still an OK and acceptable practice in the technical forum. I guess its ok when you are talking about parts or frustrated at your car or whatever. :)

Dave, in the past, it was something that -- we did a "look the other way" here too. Until it got out of hand.

Different mods, different tolerances.

I'm ok with that.

sammyg2 07-26-2008 08:05 AM

I was gonna ask if it's still OK to say that Todd is a poopyhead, but I doan wanna push my luck ;)

I've noticed a trend lately, a regular thread starts out OK and then by page two or three it deteriorates quickly into two or three members going back and forth with insults.
It's got to the point where a thread that goes past three pages isn't worth opening up, unless someone feels the need to jump in with a jab and then jump out.

And it's usually the same small group of folks. I've also noticed that the most active instigator tends to get others slapped but not himself.
Word to the rest: wise up. Don't let a troll drag you into a urinating match, he'll get you so fired up you do cross the line and get slapped, then he laughs at you. That's what trolls do.
It's just the internet people, it isn't worth getting aggravated over! I've watched otherwise reasonable regular guys turn into wackos because they let a troll get under their skin. It's happened to me a couple of times. Don't be that guy.

Use the ignore feature for trolls. Don't feed the troll. Don't acknowledge a troll. Don't reply to a troll.
Don't ever quote a troll, that is one of the worst things you can do. That means that everyone sees the troll's post even if he is on ignore.
Trolls don't like talking to themselves so they will go away if we ignore them and if we do that the moderators don't have to turn into day-care workers. They have enough to do without raising internet children. No offense..........

Unbelievable that a simple "clean up the language" edict turns into this train wreck!!

This has to be about the funniest thing I have ever read on OT....

I enjoy reading some of the OT posts.... the random pictures is usually a treat.. and then there are a few threads in between that are interesting...

Somehow someone ALWAYS interjects politics into some threads.. Both sides are guilty..

Why don't you guys grow up? wow editing quotes to align them with your view, making demeaning spellings of posters screen names....

What a bunch of woman..

This isn't my forum, but I''d never let some of this non-sense be associated with my business...

The latest update:
m21sniper is banned permanently. Repeated disregard for the forum rules.

I am really getting sick of this. Maybe we should close the Off Topic forums for a while.
