No trans-fats, what AM I getting?

At some of these places that claim no transfats I've noticed that they tear my guts up later that day/night. What the hell are they using and is this "side-effect" common?

FWIW, I'm talking fried chicken, etc...

lol. I haven't been to a KFC in over a year but hit one for lunch a week ago. All was good until that night. I didn't put 2 & 2 together until I went again a couple days ago and had the same result.

Daddy's off the bird for a while

Kenny!

"Olestra may cause abdominal cramping and loose stools. "

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Olestra

If not this nasty stuff - than maybe something like it.

Any real food product like safflower oil or peanut oil should have none of these side effects.

There's no way they're frying in Olestra. There are way too many people who are sensitive to that stuff.

There are two basic configurations of fatty acids, cis and trans. Trans fats are more closely linked to cardiovascular disease. Trans fats typically come from animal fat (lard, etc.). Cis-fats typically come from vegetable oils.

It may not be the brand name Olestra stuff - but I am sure there are space age "franken-fats" being fed to us.

Hours later any dunkin donut will give an burp of undigested grease that comes from no animal nor plant known to man..

I call KFC freight train food.

Runs through me in under a half hour.

I NEVER eat it unless I am at home in close proximity to facilities.

that's pretty good. There are certain things at certain places that I like, but that I won't order unless I KNOW I will be headed home after eating.

This conversation seems to be quickly spiraling downwards.......

After losing a 2006 lawsuit filed by the Center for Science in the Public Interest, KFC agreed to switch to non-transfat soybean fryer oil in all restaurants by 4/07.

Contrary to that, YUM brands (the parent company) announced that KFC and all other YUM brand restaurants would be switched to a non-transfat canola fryer oil.

So, you could be eating either soy or canola. Whichever, stay close to the facilities.

same thing happens to me... but only at one place..
who ever coined the name PANDA EXPRESS got it all right...

nothing like a coworker coming back with the to-go box when you know your going to be trapped in flight all day... just hope that the "Meat sweats" come when your on approach not when your taking off...
