Ha! I beat the computer at chess!

Well, it resigned and I was on the easiest setting, but it still consistently beat me. Took about 4 hours over the last 3 nights. Anyone else into chess? I have a cousin that is plays in all the big tournies and is quite the player.

Competition-grade in High School. Thereafter, I gave it up when chicks came!

In between chicks, I did buy the computer unit. Level III was the highest I could beat. Level IV? Well, the computer was too slow grinding all of his moves; so I threw it away!

Dave, I play on chessworld.net and find it a fantastic site. You can play as fast or slow as you want.

PM me your email address and I'll send you an invite from the site if you want.

Love the game. Used to play on-line ...a lot!

Great game IMO for keeping the mind sharp (use it or lose it).

I used to play chess - years ago, including the computer games. Got to a point where I could easily beat level 1 - 2 - 3 in 5 moves or less. (Ever hear of shoe maker's checkmate? )

Haven't played in a few years -- I used to have a partner to was a great player - and he had OCD. Somehow the chess match was able to focus his attention and concentration very well - he was the most calm and relaxed when we played.

Anyone have any theories why there are no (virtually) women playing competitive chess?

"he was the most calm and relaxed when we played."

-Z-man.

I was just the opposite. I would sit at the table and vibrate, my pulse ripping along at about 120bpm the whole time. It wasn't fun.

Interesting stories. I just played some friendly matches growing up. I checked out the two websites posted, but I think I'll stick to playing against computer for the moment.

I played a lot growing up and got quite competitive. Whooped all my friends easily. Later played almost everyone at my old job. Then they hired this poindexter type guy. We set the board up in the lunchroom. The crowd gathered to see if I would keep my crown. Before the first move he turned and faced the wall. He called out his moves and I moved both sides. He kicked my arse. I don't think I ever made an offensive move. Very humbling..... lol

I dated a girl once whose idea of a hot date was 3-4 games of chess followed by some fairly wild sex.

She sucked at chess, but she was pretty decent in bed. Nice girl, i still think of her fondly sometimes.

That is pretty remisniscing and funny! I used to say (no joke), "If I win, I screw you. If you win you screw me!"
