Think of it this way...

Now it forces people to support their locally owned and run businesses more, and that's good.

I use to eat at the one in Huntington Beach and it was good, not great, but good. That was over 10 years ago though.

Have you ever been laid off and if so, did you get two weeks notice or severance? I worked at McConkey's (ex NY Giant player) in NJ in college and I was also laid off by coming to work one day and finding the doors locked. This happened to my dad at a serious semi-conductor company owned by Siemens too. When you have a business that's very prone to employee theft, you don't give those employees ample notice to start stealing stuff and giving away services or food/booze to their friends. I've been laid off several times and only once was I told I didn't have to leave the premises within the hour. That's how it works and always will.

No offense intended. The big corporate model replicating the same slop from sea to shining sea is no real model for a place to eat or a place to work for me. Sorry, and I am no food snob.

Some LLC looses it corprate lease on some greasy chain is not the end of the world. Well, maybe in Flint, MI - but not in Denver.

They will be fine. Trust me. I was.

I should have known someone would try to defend the corporation.

WTF were the employees going to steal? Hamburger patties? Barstools? Starbucks better watch out, they gave plenty of advance warning, i guess their entire store locations will be disassembled and sold for scrap by departing employees.

Sometimes i just don't get you man.

The local one had all of the booze and TV's stolen by the employees yesterday morning. Seems the manager forgot to lock the back door.

If the manager 'forgot' to lock the back door the stuff could have been stolen by anyone.

And another way to look at this, one might say they HAD IT COMING TO THEM for not giving people any warning that their lives were about to be turned upside down.

The food industry is hard. The resaraunt dollar is so freakin' competitive. Here's an awesome website that gives the server's POV.

http://www.bitterwaitress.com/

Companies do have to worry about theft - especially when they treat thier employees like crap.

Ruth Chris, maybe. Or McCormick and Schmidt? Hard to say. People aren't going out or spending, and it's killing all sorts of businesses. Restaurants and places like Starbucks are the first to suffer.

People are still going out and dropping coin all over...the clubs here at night are still booming, and more are opening as we speak. I think that we're seeing the rise of the Sin lifestyle...if yer going to go broke anyways, do it in style, don't do it at Bennigans.

Yeah, good point. I heard chocolate futures have gone through the roof on Wall Street. I'm sure booze, pot, coke and hookers are up too. Internet porn is at an all-time high in downloads someone said on MSNBC.

I'm not so sure Starbucks problems are directly related to the economy, are they? They simply did the market study for the $5 cup of coffee and proved it was viable. Then everybody read the study and copied them. Meanwhile, they continued to open more and more locations erroneously believing they had something unique

Oh, and Bennigan's had/has a great Cobb salad!

Are you sure that was a Bennigan's? There were some guys that had a three or four bars in our area that had a name very similar to Bennigan's, I used to go to the one in Manhatan Beach.

What I've read is saturation of the market hurt them. Not to mention the economy. If you can see three or more Starbucks from one place on the street, something is wrong.

I know an accountant who asks his clients who are having a tough time, "Do you go to Starbucks?" If they say yes, he tells them to stop going.
