Ipod Accessories?

First Ipod and I have what is probably a stupid question....
What the heck is the white plastic thing that comes with the Ipod?
It has a trough that fits the Ipod with a slot in the bottom for the com link.
Any ideas?

I use a cradle when I connect my ipod to my home stereo. I use a harmony remote to control it.

As stated it is an adapter for your specific ipod. If you purchase a cradle, usually a powered base that allows you to connect your ipod to a stereo via the line out at the bottom in lieu of the headphone jack, they come with a large hole and you have to insert an adapter. Most cradles come with the adapters as well, so as stated above, you probably won't need it. The line out sounds better than the headphone jack when sent thru a system.

I use a cradle everyday for a pod hooked up to a small system in my daughters room.
