Tire Stores
Hi Gang
Can anybody recommend a reputable tire store to buy tires from off the internet? Been looking at The Tire Rack but is there a less expensive store out there? Application would be for an all season tire for an SUV.. Thanks in advance |

Tire Rack is my recomendation.
Of course, if you really want to save money over the life of the tires, buy local. Most places will have higher pricers than Tire Rack, but will warrant the tires and provide free rotations for their lifetime. Also, don't forget that when you buy online you must pay shipping and most shops really tack on the fees (balance, rotate, disposal) for tires that you did not buy there...

In NY, Long Island to be specific there was a local family owned tire store, All Weather Tire. Consistently beat out places like Tire Rack. Service was great, place was like a little pit stop. Pull up and there are 20 guys with floor jacks in the bays and parking lot. Tell em what you need, negotiate the price, up goes the car and 15 minutes later you are done. Can't beat it. I miss that place.

If you're in a larger city you can find take-off's for sale on Craigslist. Just make sure they're "new car take-offs" not "hurry before somebody sees us" take offs.
Yes! Tire prices are negotiable! Some places are more likely to do it than others. If you research price at Discount Tires and Tire Rack then take the prices to a local shop you'll find they suddenly come off the numbers written on the sign.

I thought most places will match Tire Rack's retail price, since they buy them there at wholesale. Costco is usually pretty good for tires too.

I just put tires on my BMW. Went to a Firestone and they were cheaper than Tire Rack by a couple of dollars per tire.

I bought a set of Pirelli Scorpions for my Bronco from Tire Rack. Way cheaper than any local dealer. But........ by time I got done with the shipping and what the installation cost me. I pretty much broke even to what it would have cost me to get them locally.

I've purchased from www.edgeracing.com for the last several years. Great service, and ULTRA cheap prices!

Try Sam's Club - good pricing if they carry what you want.
Locally, I usually buy Firestone / Bridgestone.

Sometimes my local Firestone factory store will match, or at least come close to Tire Rack. Before I sold my wife's SRX, I ordered new Kumhos from Tire Rack. Even after paying $120 for shipping, they were still more than $100 cheaper than anything else in town. Another $80 to mount them that I would have paid anyway. Shop around, negotiate, and make sure you take shipping into account.

Tire Rack was my choice. I priced the locals and even with shipping and walk up mount and balance I saved $80 with Tire Rack. TR service was great, and they even sent me a dupe invoice and forms for the rebate. Local installer was Tate Boys here in Tulsa, and they were good, too. Even let me hover like a nervous ninny while the guy put my Fuchs on the machine.

I used to buy all my tires at Tirerack but have bought the last two sets at tire-easy.com - they seem to have better selection in the 15 and 16" sizes and more options. Great response - and service.

Can't beat COSTCO.
Seriously. Michelins were $150 less than Discount, installed. Were very careful. Nitrogen fill. |

They didn't even have tires that would fit my work truck. It seems they only carry sizes for "standard" passenger cars. |

I only use tirerack.com when my local, friendly tire store can't get the specific tires I want.

I like www.discounttiredirect.com better than tire rack. Frre shipping great selection etc.. I buy tires for all my vehicles there including R-Compound racing tires. Never have had a single problem getting I want for a better price than tire rack.
