Morgan Freeman Injured in Car Accident

http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,397061,00.html

Actor Morgan Freeman was injured in a car accident in Mississippi on Monday, TMZ.com reported.

The accident occurred around 11:30 p.m. near the small town of Ruleville. Freeman, 71, was airlifted from the scene to a hospital in Memphis, Tenn.

The “Dark Knight” star was accompanied by an unknown female, TMZ reported. Her condition is unknown.

MyFoxMemphis spoke to Bill Luckett, Freeman's friend and business partner, who said that the actor was sitting up and talking.

"...when his vehicle went off the edge of the road. Freeman overcorrected, flipping his 1997 Nissan Maxima several times before coming to a rest."

Morgan Freeman drives an 11 year old Maxima?

Not everybody is into cars...actually preferring the anonymity of a "common" car over "look at me" machines.

Yep. I have to respect that.

I saw the new Batman this past weekend. I got a kick out of the idea that Bruce Wayne hides behind a playboy persona so that no one questions his behavior. In one scene (that is airing in a commercial, so I don't feel bad spoiling it) he drives his Lamborghini to stay "low key".

I should have added in my original post that the Maxima driving gives me extra respect for the guy. Some of the richest/most successful people I have ever met drive profoundly ho-hum cars.

On 9-11-01, Portland, Oregon megadealer Ron Tonkin found himself stuck in Washington, D.C. This guy owns multiple car dealerships, including Ferrari, Maserati, etc. thru his "Gran Turismo" dealership. He was in D.C. for an auto dealer's meeting, he the president of the group.

So, with all flights cancelled, he did what any auto dealer would do...contacted one of his dealership buddies, bought a car, and he & his wife drove home.

A few days later, his Toyota dealership had a Camry for sale with a few thousand miles on it.

When I read the column telling this tale in the Portland paper, his selection made sense to me.

Warren Buffet has been driving himself around in a '00 Linclon Town Car. He just only recently picked up a new TC this year.

The CEO and COB of a nationwide major 500 company drives a little girl volvo. My brother keeps putting magnetic soccer balls on it. He could actually afford almost any car in the world but prefers a low key pos volvo.

Kerry underwood still drives the Mustang she won on American Idol years ago.

Google "Morgan Freeman and 60 Minutes." In the interview, which takes place in his hometown in Mississippi, he isn't driving a Maxima...

Doesn't Conan O'Brien still drive the Ford Taurus that he bought when he was still a writer?

According to the news reports, the car belonged to the passenger. AP reports:

The actor "has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage, but is in good spirits," according to a statement from Donna Lee, Freeman's publicist. A hospital spokeswoman said Freeman was in serious condition but would not discuss his injuries.

"He is having a little bit of surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to help correct the damage," Lee's statement said. "He says he'll be OK and is looking forward to a full recovery."

I've worked with him and he is a very nice, easygoing guy. The kind you could sit around and have a beer with and find you have a lot in common. Get well Morgan.
