Sure, I've said I didn't think she should buy something a few times, none of them mattered. She bought it anyway.
On the other side, she buys me stuff all the time I wouldn't/couldn't buy for myself.

Never anything big, but several times she's seen something advertised on TV by that Billy tard guy or something. I can see it in her eye and without anything else being said, i say "no friggin way".

If she wants something nice, she can have it, if she wants to drag home junk or somethnig who won't use, I say no.

One time she wanted to dress up in some really sexy outfit along with her really hot girl friend and then have both of them give me a full body massage. Of course I said no!

Was it the money, you just didn't want to spend it?
I could help you out a little if I could bring my camera.

Nope, never.

I have asked her to defer a purchase, but never told her no.

No...she worries more about buying stuff for herself than I ever could. It's weird. I almost have to talk her into buying really reasonable, needed stuff. She was raised on a farm that counted every penny, every day, in every way just to keep going.

That's why she keeps the books

Wife (of 10 years) fell in love with a Victorian colonial mansion built in the 1800's. 14 rooms, with a center hall staircase so wide you can't touch both railings, platform hallway on each floor like an old apt building that leads to the staircase to the next floor. Servents staircase from kitchen up to each floor, dumbwaiters in the walls, giant rooms, marble fireplaces in every room etc.etc.etc. Home needed complete renovation.

Told her NO! Explained that it needed at least 250,000.00 in repairs and modernizing (complete electrical, plumbing, heating etc.). She bought it behind my back using my credit and cash (she didn't work) and thought I'd go along with it once we owned it. WRONG! I filed for divorce the following week. It's been 12-13 years since then and the house needs more work now than it did then. I'm sure her new hubby (remarried 5-6 years ago) has come to the realization that if they ever get close to finishing the first things that were done will need redoing again by then.

Oh ya they refinanced it when the market was up to get money to fix it up, blew the cash. Now the place is probably worth less than the mortgage balance.

Often

Then I went out and got her the loaded Montero Sport on new year's eve. Got a smoking deal on nice truck, and they let me put my down payment in a 12 month CD due to some 12 month, no payments or interest thing they were doing. Dropped about 50% of the principle a week before they started running the clock

It tows surprisingly well. Dragged my integra from Houston to Sacto and you almost did not notice it was back there going up a hill.

Wife has her own money. I have never had to say no regarding money.

I have had to tell her 'no' regarding some family matters. My wife is from India, and occasionally we do not see eye to eye on family obligations. Directly a result of the differences in culture. But we have learned to met in the middle. 11 years of marriage will do that to ya.

Haven't actually said no, but just avoided being responsive when she brings up the Lexus SC430 thing.

My wife wasn't raised on a farm, but she is the same way. Sometimes I have to literally hand her cash and tell her to go to the mall because all of her clothes are worn out. Look at the crap I buy, we can afford pretty much everything she wants, whether or not she thinks so.

lolo, My GF wants to buy expensive things and skimps on things for herself.
I can deal with that. So, I try to not say "No" most of the time.

However, I'm keeping a trump up my sleeve.

How many times has your other half said "no" to fun time in bed at night?
So, I figure one day I'll pull the trump and take her shopping and just say, "no, not today honey, I have a head ache"

I work with a lot of Indians. (Yeah, I know it's really surprising to hear that from an IT guy.) The impression I get is that it is considered a complete faux pas to say no to family--no matter what the request. I have coworker who literally max out credit cards buying laptops, iPods, cameras, etc. before trips home because family members requested expensive electronics. I have a few coworkers who are letting a young cousin, niece, or nephew live with them rent-free AND are paying for their American college education simply because a family member asked for it. From what I gather, there is no greater shame than refusing family.

My wife can buy anything she wants as long as I can keep my 911s and my bicycles.
